Give a 5 question mixed review quiz to students every Friday.The questions can focus on current learning, but should also include questions from the entire year (especially concepts needed for next week's lessons, or foundational items that need to be mastered). This strategy will help develop mastery, provide opportunities for mixed practice to ensure comprehension beyond specific learning content.

The applet presents an angle (initially full) that the user can adjust by dragging the end points of the line segments forming the angle. As it changes it shows the angle measure and a message that indicate which type of angle it is. In this lunch and learn video, facilitator's explore how easy and inexpensive it is to implement STEAM activities into early year classrooms.  Facilitator's offer examples of supplies, costs, ideas, and make connections to cross curricular outcomes and beyond.  The video also illustrates a STEAM activity which was adapted for grades K-2 and how this STEAM activity was implemented to a K-2 classroom.  The STEAM activity and resources highlighted in the video are also shared within this resource.

On June 10, 2024, the Sun West School Division Grade-Alike Planning Team hosted a Share Out Day in which they presented their collaborative projects and provided links to all resources explored throughout the year. Geometric probabilities, and probabilities in general, allow us to guess how long we'll have to wait for something to happen. Today, we'll discuss how they can be used to figure out how many Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans you could eat before getting the dreaded vomit flavored bean, and how they can help us make decisions when there is a little uncertainty - like getting a Pikachu in a pack of Pokémon Cards! We'll finish off this unit on probability by taking a closer look at the Birthday Paradox (or birthday problem) which asks the question: how many people do you think need to be in a room for there to likely be a shared birthday? (It's likely much fewer than you would expect!)

In groups of 5-6, create a project to demonstrate mastery of the above outcome. You may create a poster, PowerPoint, prezi, video, etc… if you have another idea, ask your teacher for approval. Create your project as if you are teaching this outcome to another student – what would they need to know and what examples would be useful?

The Grade 1-3 PLC team has created a choice board for students learning from home in response to COVID-19. The areas addressed include Reading, Writing, Math, Get Moving, Get Creative, and a Project. The focus of this week is poetry and geometry.
