Alternative to Mad Minutes
Alternative to Mad Minutes
Looking for an alternative to the traditional mad minute? These files involve either the SMART Board or an overhead projector. The teacher prepares a grid that is appropriate in size for the age of the students and the skill (addition, multiplication). The students make a similar grid in their notebook. The teacher calls numbers for down the side and across the top, and the students add these to the grid. The timer is set for 1 or 2 minutes, during which time the students complete the chart . Once the time is over, the completed chart is exposed to the students. They pass their books to the person ahead/behind them for correcting purposes. The teacher records the scores. Once the routine is established, it should only take a very few short minutes to have the entire process complete.
SMART Board and overhead versions attached.
