Essential Question Lesson Checklist
This checklist outlines how and why it is important to develop essential questions that:
- are written in engaging, provocative student friendly language
- are directly linked to the standards and benchmarks
- require students to use thinking skills at the top end of Bloom’s Taxonomy (analysis, interpretation, inference, synthesis and/or evaluation)
- begin with How, Why, or Which to provoke a sense of wonder and curiosity in the students
It includes the following considerations to keep in mind when developing essential questions:
- information resources
- components of the task
- assessment
- enrichments
- what the students will know, be able to do, and understand
- standards (outcomes)
