WHMIS 2015 Pictograms and Symbols
Rating
0.0 stars

WHMIS pictograms are simple graphic images that are intended to highlight the types of hazards present in various hazardous products. A quick glance at a pictogram, such as flammable, corrosive or health hazard, will alert the user of the hazardous product of the potential dangers and compel him/her to take the requisite precautions.

Pictograms were introduced into WHMIS in 2015 when Canada integrated the GHS into WHMIS. They are replacements for the old WHMIS 1988 symbols.

Except for the biohazardous infectious materials pictogram, all the WHMIS pictograms are made of a distinctive red “square-set-on-one-of-its-points” border and have the symbol representing the hazard associated with a product inside the border.

Pictograms are required to be a significant highlight contain in WHMIS training, which is required by any Canadian worker who may come in contact with or workaround hazardous products.

What are the properties of Hydraulic Fluids?
Rating
0.0 stars

A hydraulic system works by moving the working fluid through the components. But apart from power transmission, a hydraulic fluid additionally helps in dissipating the heat from the components thus cooling the system. The heat generated is due to the working of various components. To ensure smooth functioning, the moving components of the system should be lubricated as well. Thus, hydraulic fluid has various functions in a hydraulic power system.

The selection of hydraulic fluid is dependent on the requirements of the power system. Nonetheless, the hydraulic fluid must possess some properties to be used in a hydraulic power system. A hydraulic fluid having good lubricity separates and lubricates the components effectively. A good hydraulic fluid should have ideal viscosity, it should be stable chemically, as well as physically to ensure usage for long time periods. The fluid must have high bulk modulus for proper working. Another property desired in a hydraulic fluid is fire-resistance. Additionally, hydraulic fluids having low foaming tendency are preferred in hydraulic systems.

Although no hydraulic fluid can possess all the properties. Hence, the best possible hydraulic fluid is used which fulfils most of the requirements of the system.

What is PTO? (and how it could kill you!)
Rating
0.0 stars

If you're a total tractor "newbie", you'll hear the term PTO or "Power Take Off" used often when talking about tractors. It's one of the most dangerous parts of any farm tractor and something that needs to be respected by the operator. In this video we discuss the different types of PTO and how they work.

The PTO is the spinning shaft on the back of the tractor that attaches to a shaft to power a variety of implements, brush hogs, finish mowers, tillers and most post hole diggers.
PTO's haven't been redesigned since early farm tractors, it's a splined shaft that spins, turning a long driveshaft that leads to a gearbox to make blades spin, tines turn, or augers dig.

Problem is, if you get any part of your body parts, hair or clothing stuck in a spinning PTO, you'll likely be killed in a horrific manner, or maimed for life. Don't want to scare you here, but NEVER get off the tractor and go back near a spinning PTO. EVER!!!!

PTO entanglement one of the reasons why farming is either the most dangerous, or second most dangerous occupation , and especially if you're new to tractors you need to stay way from them with the tractor running. A human can't stop a PTO from turning.
