This lesson integrates language arts, music, and math. The children will listen to the story "Count on Bunnies". They will be given the opportunity to act out the story and solve bunny equations. After listening to the song "Five Young Rabbits," the children will take turns being rabbits and pantomiming the actions as the class sings. The children will combine the rabbits at the end of each verse to see how many rabbits have been added. Then they will work in pairs to create their own rabbit equations.

This is an introductory lesson in a series of lessons on our community and community helpers. "Rosie's Walk" by Pat Hutchins will be used as the pattern to plan our own walk around our school playground. Students will then create a simple map of our school playground.

Kindergarten children are usually familiar with beginning sound "ABC" books with texts such as "A is for apple. "In this activity, repeated for each consonant letter, art, writing, conventional spelling, and reading are combined to create a personal "Letter Book" for each child.

These three (or four) 45-minute lessons will introduce Kindergarteners and first graders to "Women's Social Sciences Month." The students listen to the story of author Gloria Houston's great-aunt, Arizona Houston Hughes. During and following the listening and viewing experiences, the students will discuss their experiences with women in their own Social Sciences who are helping them become good citizens and grow up well.

For young children, the mouse will be the primary interface they use with the computer. Although most do not have any difficulty correlating the movement of the mouse with the movement of the cursor on the monitor (unlike adults!), they do often get confused with clicking, double clicking, and click and drag. This is the introductory lesson in mouse use for a Kindergarten class. It is spread over three days to accommodate short attention spans.
