By most measures, Canada is a very young country, and Canadians are a very new people. The vast majority of Canada’s population is descended from European immigrants who only arrived in the 18th century or later, and even the most “historic” Canadian cities are rarely more than 200 years old.

But thousands of years before any Europeans arrived there were still people living in Canada. Canadian Aboriginals, also known as Native Canadians, the First Nations of Canada, Indigenous Canadians, or Canadian Indians, are the modern-day descendants of the first human inhabitants of North America.

LesPlan Educational Services Ltd. has been providing North American teachers with current events resources since 1990. Our goal is to help teachers develop students' understanding of and ability to critically assess current issues and events by providing quality, up-to-date, affordable, ready-to-use resources.

Our team of classroom teachers, writers, and illustrators select the previous month's top news stories, then craft age-appropriate, leveled stories summarizing the key points and perspectives for students. We include the background information often lacking from traditional news stories – as well as key vocabulary definitions – to help students understand the issue, and strive to present all sides of any debate. Our aim is to foster understanding and develop critical thinking so that students can develop their own positions on each story we cover.

We could have a government whose top priority is yours and our planet's health and well-being. Instead of what we currently have, a government that only cares about getting re-elected, then ignores voter's wishes until the next election.

A Saskatchewan Green Party government would be centred on real climate action, affordable housing and ending homelessness, helping small, local businesses thrive, and accessible healthcare. Our core values are centred on your wellness.

Saskatchewan New Democrats
Rating
0.0 stars

Saskatchewan's New Democrats are looking to the future, reaching out to people across the province and listening to your concerns, ideas and dreams as we shape a fresh vision of a fairer, greener, more prosperous Saskatchewan.

Our Values
We value fairness and extending opportunity and prosperity broadly, we want to reduce inequality, and we believe in encouraging aspiration and giving everyone a chance to get ahead and achieve their full potential. We want to create a province where, if you work hard and play by the rules, you can get ahead and, if you face barriers and challenges, we work together to help you succeed.

We value a healthy society, and we recognize the importance of a variety of factors (including education, employment, income, housing, the broader environment and social supports) in creating healthier communities that benefit all of us.

We value a strong and vibrant economy, with an innovative and dynamic business sector – including private, public and co‐operative businesses – and a well-trained, hard-working labour force that is protected and treated with respect and dignity.

We value a smart-growth approach, which includes using today's prosperity to save for the long-term, to build important infrastructure, and to diversify our economy so we can end the boom-and-bust cycle.

We value sustainability and want to leave the world to our children and grandchildren better than we received it, with our shared environment kept safe and our common wealth more abundant.

We value community and believe that we can achieve more when we work together. We believe the rights we enjoy should serve as a reminder of the responsibilities that we owe. And we value the importance of the things that make life good, including the arts, culture, sport, and time with family and friends.

We value democracy and believe that everyone should have the ability to shape their own life and the life of their community, that those who are most affected by a decision should have the greatest input into the discussion, and that government needs to be more transparent, accountable, inclusive and responsive to the needs of Saskatchewan families, businesses and communities.

Treaties with Indigenous Peoples in Canada
Rating
0.0 stars

Indigenous treaties in Canada are constitutionally recognized agreements between the Crown and Indigenous peoples. Most of these agreements describe exchanges where Indigenous nations agree to share some of their interests in their ancestral lands in return for various payments and promises. On a deeper level, treaties are sometimes understood, particularly by Indigenous people, as sacred covenants between nations that establish a relationship between those for whom Canada is an ancient homeland and those whose family roots lie in other countries. Treaties therefore form the constitutional and moral basis of alliance between Indigenous peoples and Canada.

Self taught Beausoleil First Nation artist, William Anthony Monague grew up with the People of Chimnissing on an isolated island with no access to formal education or training in the arts. He discovered inspiration in the traditional teachings of Mother Earth, Spirit World and in the beauty of nature and in the Georgian Bay shores that surrounded him. His journey began in the 70's traveling the Pow Wow trail and along the way, paintings, carvings, quill work, crafts and jewelry were acquired by curators from The Washington Museum of Fine Art, Turtle Art Gallery in New York, Royal Ontario Museum among others.
