This is a recording of a Lunch & Learn Session for teachers on how to use Ocean School.
Resource booklets are included for K-4 and 5-12. This excellent resource has everything you should need to get started on learner profiles in one place!
This document is meant to serve as a guide as your school begins to write its own land acknowledgement. Writing a land acknowledgement as a collaborative process can be a rewarding and meaningful experience for staff, students, parents and all involved. It is a time to reflect on the history of the land we are on and our relationship to the land. Our current relationship to the land is inextricably intertwined with our relationship with Indigenous Peoples.

In this activity about magnetic fields and their relation to the Sun, learners will simulate sunspots by using iron filings to show magnetic fields around a bar or cow magnet, and draw the magnetic field surrounding two dipole magnets, both in parallel and perpendicular alignments. Finally, learners examine images of sunspots to relate their magnetic field drawings and observations to what is seen on the Sun.
This is an activity about perspective. Learners will examine pictures of objects up close and far away to try and figure out what they are. Then, given an image of a star and the Sun and through discussion about the differences and similarities of seeing objects up close, learners will use the concept of perspective to relate our nearby Sun to the stars that appear as small points of light in our sky.
Students will learn about the growth and development of sunflowers and other plants.
This site offers kids songs, shows, crafts, recipes, activities, resources for teachers & parents. The resource section (Free Printables tab) includes free flashcards, coloring pages, worksheets, and other resources for children, teachers, and parents.
Students are challenged to design, build and test small-scale launchers while they learn and follow the steps of the engineering design process. For the challenge, the "slingers" must be able to aim and launch Ping-Pong balls 20 feet into a goal using ordinary building materials such as tape, string, plastic spoons, film canisters, plastic cups, rubber bands and paper clips. Students first learn about defining the problem and why each step of the process is important. Teams develop solutions and determine which is the best based on design requirements. After making drawings, constructing and testing prototypes, they evaluate the results and make recommendations for potential second-generation prototypes.
Use this hands-on activity to demonstrate rotational inertia, rotational speed, angular momentum, and velocity. Students build at least two simple spinners to conduct experiments with different mass distributions and shapes, as they strive to design and build the spinner that spins the longest.
Students build simple spinners to learn about rotation.
