Formative Assessments (assessment for learning) refer to the ongoing process that students and teachers engage in when they: focus on the learning goals (know where they are going) take stock of where current work is in relation to that goal (know where they are now) take action to move closer to the goal (know how to close the gap)
Formative assessments are used to gather evidence, both formally and informally, for the purpose of improving learning.
It is not the instrument that is formative; it is the use of the information gathered, by whatever means, to adjust teaching and learning, that makes it formative.
The purpose of this portfolio is to give an overview of your child’s progress in all the developmental areas throughout the school year. Samples of your child’s work are collected and used to show his/ her learning. Your child helps to make decisions about what to put into this portfolio. They are accessible to you and your child at anytime throughout the school year.
The work samples collected in this portfolio will give you an idea of the curriculum and daily activities used in our prekindergarten program.
During the preschool years, young children greatly expand their knowledge, understandings and abilities. They actively explore and discover their world through experiences using their senses of touch, sight, smell, hearing and taste.
Individually research a genetic disorder or issue in our society. You will be presenting these to the class.

Assessment Rubric
The main purpose of grading is to inform our pedagogy. A grade should tell the student, the teacher and the parents how a student performs in comparison a well-defined standardized outcome.
The grade should help direct the students further learning by identifying the student’s position on the journey to mastery.
• View, listen to, read, comprehend, and respond to a variety of texts that address identity (e.g., Exploring Loyalty, Love, and Relationships), social responsibility (e.g., Equal Opportunity), and efficacy (e.g., Surviving and Conquering).
• View, listen to, read, and respond to a variety of visual, oral, print and multimedia (including digital) texts that address the grade-level themes and issues related to identity, social responsibility, and efficacy including those that reflect diverse personal identities, worldviews, and backgrounds (e.g., appearance, culture, socio-economic status, ability, age, gender, sexual orientation, language, career pathway).
• The students will be reading and responding to the novel The Loki Wolf, which focuses on social responsibility and efficacy. The Loki Wolf reflects worldviews, cultures, and focuses on surviving and conquering. The students will be able to learn about various worldviews and cultures through Norse Narratives.
The rubric provided above is a universal rubric that can be used for evaluating journal reflections. I have specifically used this rubric in English Language Arts 8
The Learning Behaviors are those behaviors necessary for a student to succeed both socially and academically

I created this assessment rubric for my grade 9 math class during my internship and I believe that it reflects a 21st century teaching style. This assessment allows students to present their knowledge through a real world application. It also allowed students to be creative and imaginative when presenting the content learning. Students were able to construct a project that was of interest to them for example a water park and paintball course were some of the projects created. After correcting students assignments one change that I would make to the rubric is requiring students to show the formula that they used so that it makes their work easier to follow and correct. Also, although I had communicated to my students the curricular outcome being covered in this unit, I feel that it would have had more impacted if it was stated again on the rubric sheet.
The goal of this assignment is to trace your origin. We will look back to what family members decided to bring you to live in Saskatoon. This will require some work with your family members, as it may be your best opportunity to find out information about your family’s past.
There are many partners who play significant roles in educating children. Parents are the first teacher of their child, and theirs is a crucial role in the education of their children.
Conferences are the formal framework that parents and teachers can use to learn together how to provide the best possible support system for the child’s learning.
While many schools still use the standard fifteen minute conference format in which a teacher will see parents individually over the course of an afternoon or evening, in recent years, the traditional meeting has been challenged by two alternative conference formats: the three way conference and the student led conference.
