This lesson introduces Family Message Journals - a teacher-tested tool for encouraging family involvement and supporting writing to reflect and to learn.

This is a fabulous resource to support your literacy goals in the classroom. There are endless options of good-quality children's literature and accompanying activities. This is a listening activity, intended to help students with their listening skills.  The activity is a reading of the book "Barnyard Dance" written by Sandra Boynton, read by Heather Phillips, that includes dance like instructions for students to do as they listen.

This video demonstrates at home make and beak word literacy strategies that you can do at home with your kids.

This short video has been designed to serve as a writing prompt.  Watch the video in Section 1 once and just enjoy.  Then select a writing prompt from Section 2 and rewatch the video to gather (even jot down) ideas.  Then write!

Each section contains informational sites for parents, as well as activities students can do at home to improve their literacy skills.
