Saskatchewan Birding Tours with Stan Shadick
Rating
0.0 stars

Saskatchewan is a birder's paradise with its diversity of habitats and its central location that situates itself within multiple migration flyways. Avid birder Stan Shadick has over 40 years of experience guiding bird tours in Saskatchewan.

Based out of the central location of Saskatoon, Stan’s tours are available through Saskatoon Custom Bird Tours and venture to some of the province’s best birding hot spots.

During the fall Stan offers the incredible opportunity to view North America's tallest bird, the whooping crane. These birds were near extinction in the 1940s with only a few dozen left in the wild. With a strong conservation effort, their population is now just over 800 birds. The wetlands of Saskatchewan provide a vital staging ground for this endangered species and give the seasoned birder a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to view the awe-inspiring bird.

Another stand-out tour is offered in the spring when Saskatchewan's provincial bird, the sharp-tailed grouse performs their courtship dance at sunrise.

Saskatchewan Highland Gathering and Celtic Festival
Rating
0.0 stars

The Saskatchewan Highland Gathering & Celtic Festival incorporates older Highland Games events in Regina and Moose Jaw that have been running since the early 20th century! We promote all things Scottish and Celtic and provide an excellent opportunity for members of the local and neighbouring communities to get involved and showcase their talents and promote their wares. Pipers, drummers, dancers, heavy events athletes, and enthusiasts from all over Western Canada come to southern Saskatchewan each year on the May long weekend to participate in this exciting line-up of events.

Each year, we join with the Regina Hotels Association and other sponsors to make the weekend bigger and more spectacular than ever, with more events, more for everyone to do, and more great reasons to stay in Regina while taking in the weekend events!

In true Scottish hospitality, the Gathering provides a friendly environment for members of the public to come and watch the various events taking place including the piping and drumming, highland dancing, heavy events, and the very popular festival tent. After watching your favourite event, take a stroll through our Celtic market and pick-up something uniquely Scottish like a clan badge, sporran, sgian dubh (skeen doo - black dagger) or even a kilt! Food and refreshments are available all weekend and you’re sure to have a fabulous day at the Games!

Bring the whole family! On a sunny day, nothing beats relaxing in a lawn chair or lying on a blanket, listening to the sounds of Scotland!
