Land of the Living Skies: Aurora Borealis Photography in Saskatchewan
Rating
0.0 stars

Saskatchewan has some of the best skies: they are vast, open, full of life and notably dark. This makes our province a fantastic place to view the stars and watch them come alive when northern lights are active.

Jeanine Holowatuik has a passion for capturing images of the northern lights. Even though she has been photographing the aurora for years Jeanine says seeing them "still takes my breath away". Jeanine lives in Hudson Bay, a rural community in east-central Saskatchewan which means she doesn't have to go far to get into nature at night and hope that the lights make a majestic appearance.

Make Your Own Custom Knife in Saskatchewan's Outback
Rating
0.0 stars

There is a sense of pride when second-generation knifemaker Grant Schiller talks about his passion from his workshop in Carrot River, Saskatchewan.

The Carrot River area is known as Saskatchewan’s Outback for its natural beauty that offers outdoor enthusiasts many opportunities for hiking, fishing, hunting and camping.

It is a fitting place to be where Grant crafts custom knives to make the most of those outdoor experiences. An outdoor enthusiast has an opportunity to make their own knife at one of the weekend knifemaking workshops that Grant offers which are open to all interests and skill levels.

Workshops are offered in limited numbers which allows Grant to share the art of knifemaking in one-on-one instruction. His passion and friendly nature create a sense of ease in his small and well-organized shop. Step by step participants learn to craft their own knife from raw materials.

Grant says the knives you create with him are not just tools but works of art that can be passed down for generations.

Meewasin Grazing Dinners
Rating
0.0 stars

Meewasin’s Grazing Dinners begin with a private hike through the native prairie at Beaver Creek Conservation Area with Renny Grilz, Distinguished Agrologist and Prairie Conservation Award recipient. Guests are immersed in the sights, smells and sounds of the landscape, and learn why the Saskatchewan prairie is so important.

Following the hike, guests are treated to a 3-course dinner prepared by Chef Scott Dicks and the team at Odla featuring Saskatchewan beef. Odla is proud to be a farm-direct restaurant, which means all ingredients they feature are grown or raised within 2 hours of Saskatoon!

Finally, during dessert, guests get a chance to get up close to a live sheep and stock dog demonstration with Shepherd Jared Epp and hear about how we use targeted grazing to manage prairie ecosystems in the river valley.

Meewasin is grateful to the Saskatchewan Cattleman’s Association for their support of our grazing dinners.
