This microtutorial will show you how to find the open access assets or resources used at the Sask DLC to teach a variety of courses.

This collection provides a list of free educational resources for K-12 students (kindergarten through high school students) and their parents and teachers. It features free video lessons/tutorials; free mobile apps; free audiobooks, ebooks and textbooks; quality free mobile apps; free audiobooks, ebooks; free foreign language lessons; test prep materials; and free web resources in academic subjects like literature, history, science and computing. This newly-released list is a work in progress.

*For every unit in Math I gave students a problem that did not have one right
answer, but many possible answers.
*Students were given a question on Monday and given time to research information
over the week.
*On Friday, the students were put into groups to discuss their findings. As a group
they needed to decide what information did they think made the best sense to use
for the problem.
*The group presented their answer to the class and explained why their group
chose to answer the question in the way that they did.

Challenging math problems worth solving.

The name “Open Middle” might sound like a strange name for a website about math problems. However, it references a very specific type of problem we try to encourage here. Most of the problems on this site have:
* a “closed beginning” meaning that they all start with the same initial problem.
* a “closed end” meaning that they all end with the same answer.
* an “open middle” meaning that there are multiple ways to approach and ultimately solve the problem.

Open middle problems generally require a higher Depth of Knowledge than most problems that assess procedural and conceptual understanding. They support the Common Core State Standards and provide students with opportunities for discussing their thinking.

Le nom "Open Middle" peut sembler étrange pour un site web sur les problèmes mathématiques. Cependant, il fait référence à un type très spécifique de problème que nous essayons d'encourager ici. La plupart des problèmes sur ce site ont :

There is a great worksheet called "Open Middle Worksheet" on the top right for kids to document their process for problem solving. It gives them up to 6 attempts and the ability to explain what they have learned and how they need to change their approach for the next attempt.

This site accompanies the book "Open Math" by Robert Kaplinsky, but you do NOT need the book to benefit from these excellent questions.
