This is a safe way to give Genius Hour a try The kids just simply start by picking 4 areas of interest, narrowing their choice down, using a think tank to help solve problems and doing a very basic PowerPoint on their topic choice. THEN you can go for it and actually have them do it when you feel ready!

Conferencing with kids during Genius Hour is a game changer. Use this editable template (I suggest kids even fill it out before they meet you if they are capable) to help students project plan and meet their deadlines! This build in accountability to Genius Hour.
This is a six week plan to introduce 21st century skills to younger students using the SECRET framework. Please note you will want to use the SECRET Posters and Book List also in the resource bank. (They are also attached here for ease.)
Grade 5 students completed the choice board after learning about three topics in social studies. Students had to complete one activity from each column of the choice board to demonstrate their understanding of the topic while using creative thinking to complete each activity. Students’ completed work was then assessed using the rubric found below.
