In this activity, students use the binary number system to transmit messages. Two flashlights are used to demonstrate how astronomy spacecraft to transmit images and other scientific data to Earth. This activity is part of Unit 4 in the Space Based Astronomy guide that contains background information, worksheets, assessments, extensions, and standards.

Four mini-lessons have been created to address this topic. Highlighting Indigenous-made films from the NFB collection, the lessons will help students understand the spirit and intent of the treaties and provide them with the information they need to discuss the issues of access to drinking water, health care and education. In a spirit of reconciliation and co-operation, students are encouraged to write, record and share their Land Acknowledgement statements on social media
Fun, easy drama games for your class!
Students will observe the painting "The Abduction of Europa" by Rembrandt Harmensz. Van Rijn. They will then form groups to create a "tableau vivant" (living picture) inspired by Rembrandt's "The Abduction of Europa." Students will choose a character in the painting and create a scenario about what they think happened and what the character said before and after the scene. Each group will then collaborate and perform their tableau vivant for the class.
