This is a collection of resources that parents may find useful.
Please note that ANY resources in The Sun West Resource Bank can be useful to parents as well. Items in this collection have been specifically marked as higher interest to parents.
If parents are searching for resources to support their child with his or her learning, they should complete the search. If they wish to, parents can use the filters on the left side of the screen and select "Primary User" and "Parent" to narrow their search if need.
If you find there are too many resources to sort through, you can filter the results using the “Filter Resources” area on the left side of the screen. Select “Education Level” to narrow your results to a specific education level. (Please note - for the purposes of this site these "Education Levels" are used when filtering - Lower Primary = K-2, Upper Primary=3-5, Middle Years=6-8, High School=9-12).

This site is full of resources about literacy for parents and their children. Information is divided into birth-Prek, K-3, 4-6 and 7-12.
Each section contains informational sites for parents, as well as activities students can do at home to improve their literacy skills.
The following is an example from 2018-2019 of what parents can do at home to support phonological awareness with their child at home.
Each month has approximately 10 or more very short activities you can do with your child, and it includes the answers you should expect from your child.

Short Video Resources for Math, Science & Net Safety
Good for early learners!
There are videos on weather and climate, early learning, math and physics.
The math resources are more middle school based.
Learners and their families are encouraged to go outside on a clear evening and view the sky to see the planets for themselves. Using sky charts and other resources, and possibly in partnership with a local astronomical society, children navigate the night sky and view planets with the naked eye and binoculars or telescopes. This activity is part of Explore! Jupiter's Family Secrets, a series designed to engage children in space and planetary science in libraries and informal learning environments.

Try out this fun online version of the popular game "Taboo". This version offers lots of game cards, an outline of the rules, a score sheet and some suggestions for how to play.
The game cards are meant to be played however you would like to. Follow the suggested rules that you can alter or come up with on your own. The game cards can be used to play Taboo online or to play any other sort of word game. There is even the opportunity to submit your own words. Enjoy!
