This free printable puts forth a series of questions and statements about dinosaurs playing baseball. (Silly, but kids love it!) Students must punctuate each correctly. Finally, kids are asked to create their own statement and question on the same topic.

This unit deals with how people first came to live in the part of the world which today we call the Northwest Territories. It focuses on stories of the First Peoples of this land which have evolved over many generations. Some of these stories may be unfamiliar to you. The stories themselves, and how we learn to tell and hear them, provide critical insights to how people have lived and understood this land we now live in.

My students each made a story wheel to show their creativity. They had to use visualization strategies to create their own illustrations for a story book that they had never seen or heard before. My PLT group has been working on Visualization strategies all year.

The First Peoples of Canada recognize certain members of their communities for their ability as storytellers. The skillful art of storytelling is passed down from one generation to another by chosen, recognized or hereditary storytellers.

Some stories are shared at certain times of the year, in designated areas and on special occasions. As well, parents, family members and Elders share their knowledge with the younger generations in the course of their daily activities.

The stories we want to share with you here are from the Inuvialuit, the Algonquin, the Métis and Cree, the Nisga'a, the Abenaki and the Mi'kmaq. They are told through movement, song and dance, using symbols and imagination. They teach us about the origin of sacred objects and ceremonies, and our relationship to the animals, plants, rocks and each other.

Strong Minds Strong Kids, Psychology Canada is committed to promoting the mental well-being of children and youth in Canada. We are dedicated to nurturing resilience in kids with the use of psychological science so they can manage, learn, and grow from the many challenges in life.

Activity- 1. Divide the students into groups. Introduce action plan and materials available for use to create the strongest and tallest structure. 2. Each group has to draw and label a blueprint of their plan/design. 3. Create a rubric with students to evaluate their structures. 4. Fascilitate and ask each group questions – What are you using in your design to create strength and stability.(We used this to create a shadow puppet on the ipads that demonstrated their learning.) Assessment 5. Students will test their structures strength using textbooks. Video tape. (Have textbooks readily available) **While presenting to each group in front of the class. 6. Students collaboratively created a Shadow Puppet, designed a dialogue together, and share their learning about structures. 7. Parents were engaged as we showcased our learning at Student Led Conferences on our Smartboard.

Kindergarten/Grade 1 Project:
Students used Educreations to choose an Olympic event that they would have like to compete in. On their first page they introduced themselves, second page they stated the sport their were interested in, third page they inserted their face onto an athlete of the sport they chose. Students presented them to each other by using the Smart Board as a projector.
Grade 2/3 Project:
As a summative assessment of the Animal Research Projects, we used Educreations to share our learning. Each student took a photo of their written report, inserted pictures of their animal from the internet, and orally reflected on their learnings by stating three stars and one wish.
Grade 4/5 Project:
As a summative assessment the students used a tech tool to compose and create a book talk. The Educreation included book cover and images to represent book, author, characters, various scenes as visuals. They use the tools to further demonstrate their opinions about their books. Some also shared a fluency sample as well.

Some kids love all the free time summer brings, with plenty of opportunities to catch up on new books and old favorites. Other kids wouldn’t crack open a book from June to August if they had the choice, but it’s important to keep them reading!
Fortunately, this summer reading list for 2022 has something for every kind of reader—fiction, nonfiction, graphic novels, romance, fantasy, adventure, and so much more. Even reluctant readers are sure to find page-turners they won’t be able to put down!
