Database Quiz

Students learn about the history and cultures of Canada's aboriginal peoples by searching the Canadian Museum of Civilization's Gateway to Aboriginal Heritage web module, completing the Gateway to Aboriginal Heritage Database Quiz, and discussing their findings. This activity introduces students to a useful source of information.

This is a safe way to give Genius Hour a try The kids just simply start by picking 4 areas of interest, narrowing their choice down, using a think tank to help solve problems and doing a very basic PowerPoint on their topic choice. THEN you can go for it and actually have them do it when you feel ready!

Conferencing with kids during Genius Hour is a game changer. Use this editable template (I suggest kids even fill it out before they meet you if they are capable) to help students project plan and meet their deadlines! This build in accountability to Genius Hour.

This is an activity about the periodic reversals of Earth's magnetic field. Learners will graph the frequency of magnetic pole reversals over the past 800,000 years and investigate answers to questions using the graphed data. This is Activity 8 in the Exploring Magnetism on Earth teachers guide.

This is an independent unit for the novel Ghost of Spirit Bear that students have 5 weeks to complete. They read the novel and answer questions as well as complete a minimum of 4 assignments in order to cover 4 outcomes. This unit can also be changed to incorporate a different novel.

Please find all the files needed to do this unit attached. Start with the files entitled "the good bad ugly unit" and the choice board file called "tic tac toe" to begin. The rest of the files support the choices on the board!

This grade 4 government unit covers all the outcomes in power and authority. It was co- created by STF, FSIN, school board association, and Amber Thompson. This unit raises awareness in local government organizations in Saskatchewan.

Each of the following resources is a reading response for students. There are 5 in total.

Outcome FP10.2 – Demonstrate an understanding of irrational numbers in both radical (including mixed radical) and exponent forms through: representing: identifying: simplifying: ordering: relating to rational numbers: applying exponent laws.

PART 1:

In groups of 5-6, create a project to demonstrate mastery of the above outcome. You may create a poster, PowerPoint, prezi, video, etc… if you have another idea, ask your teacher for approval. Create your project as if you are teaching this outcome to another student – what would they need to know and what examples would be useful?

This assessment piece was from the first unit of a first time course my co-op teacher and I developed. The course teaches construction and computer assisted design through building guitars. For this project students were asked to create a guitar model based on the Fender Telecaster. It assessed skills we had been working on for about a month prior to this assessment. Their models for this particular assignment would have to be compared to exemplars and blueprints as accuracy is of extremely high importance when building a guitar. There was other projects leading up to the unit that assessed their technical as well as creative skills.
This is a 4 point rubric (unsatisfactory, emerging, proficient, and exceptional) and assess Drafting modules 27 and 28 that focus on interpreting blueprints and creating high quality models. The first of 7 C's this rubric assesses is Communication. Students are being assessed on their competency and literacy of CAD programs and how professionals would be communicating in the field. The second C this rubric covers is developing computer and digital technologies. Students, through completing this unit are using computers and digital resources to create products.
