Want to communicate in the 21st century? You will need to go beyond email with Chat, Skype, Blog, Post and more.

Make the most of your students' diverse ability levels and experience with a prewriting activity in which they describe an abstract idea using blogging and photographs that they have taken.

Your blog project is intended to serve several purposes and fill many objectives:

Purposes:

To express your personal responses to projects and learning that occurs throughout the course
To make connections between classroom learning and your own experiences
To reflect on learning opportunities in the classroom
To share your ideas and thoughts an audience – peers, parents, community (local/global)
To share your voice about issues and topics related to this course
To link to websites and sources with related materials

We used blogging for many assignments, journals, and in place of exit slips often. We started out with familiarizing ourselves with how to log in and create posts. Our earliest posts were very basic, starting with introducing ourselves and writing about our likes, dislikes, what we did on the weekend, etc. Students were asked to create responses about a novel study we had done, The Mouse and the Motorcycle. I created prompts and had students submit their posts. After finishing the novel, we watched the video and then posted a compare/contrast assignment on the blog. We also used the "Piracy Pirates" game at mediasmarts and blogged about 3 things we learned and the connections we made between online privacy/safety and our own experiences. Students were always encouraged to make quality comments to their peers after posting.

Students work together to create their own utopias, using blogs as the primary source of publication.

Students view examples of blogs, learn the basic elements of blog creation, and then create a blog from the perspective of a fictional character.

In this specific project, the goal is to engage students in discussion and analysis of current events in a way that involved all students, regardless of confidence in speaking in front of peers. 

Students write and record their own essays for a class blog by first completing a series of activities designed to get them thinking and writing about their experiences.

More and more classrooms are using weblogs as a tool for sharing and reflecting on learning experiences. Some teachers use weblogs as a communication tool, posting regular updates about the classroom so that parents are kept informed about classroom activities. Others teachers invite students to use blogs as a way to publish final written products such as stories, and critiques. Blogs can also be used to share rough drafts, and first impressions, to chronicle an entire learning journey. In this lesson, students use blogs to hold discussions about the effect of the factors of culture, history, and environment on Latino poetry.

Students participate in learning clubs, select content area topics, and draw on texts - including websites, printed material, video, and music - to investigate their topics, and share their learning using similar media.

This topic will assist you in developing online communication and Internet learning skills. It is based on the principles of networked learning where individuals establish an online identity and formulate relationships with other people and information to communicate and develop knowledge.

Utilize blogging to engage and assist students with their Earth and Space Science Unit.  Students will work on individual computers and collaborate by sharing and commenting on blog posts.

Social Experience Blogging is an assignment that can provide students an
opportunity to express themselves while thinking about social experiences or
situations that they have been involved in. With Psychology 20 focusing on
the world of social psychology, it is important for students to reflect upon their
lives and look at the world with their own personal scope. This provides
students with a chance to customize blogs to their own liking and have a
vehicle for personal expression.
