The story follows the journey of miserly Ebenezer Scrooge, who despises the joy and warmth of Christmas. On Christmas Eve, he is visited by the ghost of his former business partner, Jacob Marley, who warns him of the consequences of his selfishness. Throughout the night, Scrooge is visited by three spirits: the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet to Come. These spirits show him his past, present, and future, revealing the impact of his actions on others. The experiences lead Scrooge to transform into a kinder, more generous person who rediscovers the true meaning of Christmas: love, compassion, and the importance of helping others.

Students explore the menu genre by analyzing existing menus from local restaurants. They review adjectives and descriptive writing and then work in groups to create their own custom menus.

Students will eat up this lesson about oranges as they practice the skills that help them investigate and make detailed observations for descriptive purposes.

This graphic organizer helps writers to write a descriptive paragraph by focusing on sights, smells, tastes, sounds, and touch.

Using The Giver, students discuss the importance recorded history. This provides context for descriptive writing of studentsŐ own history in a lesson that integrates personal writing, research, and literary response.

Every student in Ms. Montgomerys class draws a picture of a monster and then writes a descriptive paragraph about it. Ms. Hoover then connects this class with another via video conference. This new class must now draw pictures based on the descriptions from the first class, who are now very aware of the importance of details in descriptive writing.

This lesson teaches students how to use old verbs in a new way, thus creating new and fresh descriptive phrases.
