Libby, by Overdrive is a books app that allows kids to browse and borrow ebooks and audiobooks from public libraries for free. Kids will need a library card to download or stream the books they want to borrow. The app connects users to their local library's ebook and audiobook collection. Users can link multiple library cards from different branches to access a wider collection. Kids can sample books before deciding to borrow them. If they're not immediately available, they can put titles on hold, and the activity tracker lets them track what they've read. Search for a specific title or explore different collections, including Kids, Teens, What's Popular?, and Subjects. Little kids can access picture books with read-along audio, making some books more accessible to early readers. Even though Libby, by Overdrive gives users access to a wide range of books, grown-ups can activate a juvenile or young adult filter in order to limit kids' access to the entire collection.

This is another of my students' favourite assignments. The students create a container that matches one of the characters and fill it with items (or pictures of the items) that character would have or use. Tags are attached to the items that include descriptive writing, page references, and the reasons the item is important to the play.

This video takes use down into the ocean to see what habitats await us there. Yep, the ocean has layers and the types of things we encounter there change the deeper we go.

Introduce toddlers to the world of reading with Lil’ Fingers. Lil’ Fingers has big buttons and bright colors to attract a child to stories like Bears In Bed or One Little Rabbit. The site also introduces books that parents may want to add to their child’s collection or pick up at the library. There are also games and videos to entertain a growing mind.

This course is designed for high-intermediate ESL students who need to develop better listening comprehension and oral skills, which will primarily be achieved by detailed instructions on pronunciation. Our focus will be on (1) producing accurate and intelligible English, (2) becoming more comfortable listening to rapidly spoken English, and (3) learning common expressions, gambits, and idioms used in both formal and informal contexts.

Since 2013, the Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation has managed a contract from the Ministry of Education to evaluate learning resources. The Stewart Resources Centre houses most of the resources under review. These resources can be borrowed by patrons once they have been through the evaluation process. Look for the “Borrow from the STF Library” link in the resource records on the Ministry’s curriculum site. The resources below are samplings of the resources from the SRC currently at various stages of the evaluation process related to First Nation and Métis content.

This downloadable document offers an extensive alphabetical list of Greek and Latin roots outlining: the root, meaning in English, language origin (Greek or Latin), etymology (root origin) and English examples.

This is a fantastic resource that will allow students to investigate ideas they may wish to pursue for a science fair project. There are over a thousand project ideas there with links to them and everything!

The Literacy Shed is home to a wealth of visual resources that have been curated from YouTube, Vimeo and other sites to meet curricular outcomes in ELA.
The resources can be used in stand alone literacy lessons, can form the basis for a whole Literacy unit or can support literacy units that you already have in place. With the many book based activities using the book alongside the digital resource is recommended.

This is a listening activity, intended to help students with their listening skills.  The activity is a reading of the book "Barnyard Dance" written by Sandra Boynton, read by Heather Phillips, that includes dance like instructions for students to do as they listen.
