Compose and Create (CC)—Students will extend their abilities to write to explore and present thoughts, feelings, and experiences in a variety of forms, for a variety of purposes, for a variety of audiences.
In addition, outcomes and indicators related to writing inform the continuum.

Format
The continuum, providing teachers with a grade 1–12 overview of writing, is organized into the following grade groupings: 1–3; 4–6; 7–9; 10–12.

This site provides (completely free) writing prompts and exercises to help you get started with creative writing and break through writing blocks - and some fun anagram vocabulary games.

Generate random story ideas, plots, subjects, scenarios, characters, first lines for stories and more.

Help students keep their writing organized in a writing folder. Glue the labels from the next few pages onto the covers and pockets of two pocket folders. If you wish, laminate the folders and use an exacto knife to slice open the pocket. Tape the two folders together to make a four pocket folder. You could also make your own folders using 18 x 24 construction paper/manila tag. Before laminating, let the students attach the labels and decorate.

This writing process checklist can be used as a template to co-create a checklist with students that aligns with the writing task.

This resource contains a collection of excellent writing prompts for elementary students. The prompts are specifically listed until Grade 4, but many of these are great prompts that could be used with any age student! 

This method enables students to master the skills that are essential if they are to become competent writers. In turn, those skills equip students to become better readers, to communicate more effectively in writing and speaking, and most importantly, to elevate their thinking.
