This activity/assessment, in the “Our Shared Linguistic and Cultural Roots” uses the TED Ed “Mysteries of Vernacular” series as a model to determine the etymology of different words. Students view a number of videos to learn the etymology of various words; they also view to understand the text features and presentation style of the videos. Their task is to create their own “Mysteries of Vernacular” video about a word not already featured on the website.

This activity is about the study of planetary samples. Learners will use samples of crustal material to sort, classify, and make observations about an unknown planet.
