The following is a collection of resources needed to run professional learning about Project Based Learning at Sun West.
Included items:
The PowerPoint presentation, planning templates, project ideas, essential question templates, student action plan template, student reflection template and a link to outcomes for each grade (I CAN statements).

This workshop is optional for a school prior to completing the full Day PBL Professional Learning PD. It is not mandatory that you do this work prior to the main PD, but it will allow your school to focus on skill development and make collective agreements about who will teach what in each grade skill-wise.

This is a weekly reflections students can complete as they work through a project to help them stay on track.

The following is an example of a template for a weekly reflection students could use if they were working on PBL or Genius Hour, or any project.

We intend to create a winter garden and landscape the garden patch on the east side of the school. The landscaping will help make the school look more inviting and create a more welcoming atmosphere that persuades people to come into our school! The following are the powerpoints and outlines we used to do this.

This is meant to give insight into our process to help with your school's brainstorming process. There are so many different ways to take project-based learning and we have been experimenting with a few of them.

LessonIntroduction
-students will be handed out a review sheet on measuring angles, perpendicular lines, parallel lines and angle bisectors. (10 mins)

Body
-Students will be instructed to use popsicle sticks and marshmallows to construct a building. They are to ensure that some walls will be perpendicular to each other as well as parallel along with the roof. An expectation is that the building will be symmetrical and all angles on each side will be equal to the other side. (30 mins)

Science Background:
• The covered flames go out because the trapped air is used up
• The fire warms the trapped air causing it to expand and be pushed out of the jar
• When the fire goes out the air cools which causes the trapped air to contract creating a partial vacuum in the jar
• The jar and the container are forced together allowing you to lift the whole system.
Materials: plasticine, plastic container with a smooth bottom, birthday candles, water, matches, jar
