14-18 La Grande Guerre des Canadiens

Le 4 août 1914, le Canada entre en guerre aux côtés des Britanniques contre l’Allemagne et l’Autriche-Hongrie. Partout au pays, des hommes et des femmes s’enrôlent, pour défendre leur patrie d’origine, par esprit d’aventure, par sens du devoir ou encore pour l’expérience, comme le révèlent les histoires de Richard Steacie, de Blanche Lavallée, d’Arthur Giguère ou d’Erol Lizotte. Le 20 octobre 1914, le 22e Bataillon, premier corps canadien-français, est créé. En avril 1915, les troupes canadiennes participent à leur première grande bataille à Ypres en Belgique : c’est leur baptême du feu.
