Welders face serious safety risks associated with intense light rays. These intense harmful light rays are emitted from the arc and the oxy-fuel flame. You must guard your body against these harmful light rays by wearing proper personal protective equipment. This equipment also helps protect you from grinding sparks, flying slag and weld spatter. You must also put up screens and warning signs when arc welding, cutting or grinding at work sites in the vicinity of the general public. Do not use any high gloss or shiny surfaces for screens, because reflected rays can be just as dangerous. The oxy-fuel torch, and the electric arc give off both visible and invisible light rays. This radiant energy can be divided into three types:
* visible light, * ultraviolet rays and * infra-red rays

Learning what affects/impacts our overall wellness
In this mini unit, students will develop the knowledge and understanding of factors that can affect their overall wellness. They will work in groups to become experts on a topic related to the outcomes (i.e. nutrition, physical activity, relationships, mental health, environment) and present their findings to the rest of class. They will need to make the connections between their topic and the elements of the wellness wheel, and come up with strategies to improve overall wellness/balance the wheel.

I created this assessment for students to self explore throughout the year, and continue to learn about themselves through all activities we encountered throughout the term. This assessment is called Brand Yourself Motto and Logo. Students get a chance to express who they are by branding themselves with a logo and a motto. This assignment encouraged individuals to truly look at all the dimensions of wellness and how they connect to them individually, students can use an array of methods to showcase their logo or motto. I hooked most of the students by showcasing popular brands and their mottos like Nike, Addias, Tim Hortons, McDonalds, we then discussed why their mottos and logos worked so well and triggered great conversation about marketing and the effects of marketing on individuals wellness

Everyone wants things in their life. The problem is we often just think about what we want and then feel sad that we don’t have what we want. Sometimes we can obtain what we want by changing what we are doing, how we are acting or what we are thinking! Other times what we want depends on someone else changing or doing something. This is where we run into problems! When our wants depend on someone else, we are often doomed in ever being able to get that want fulfilled. If this is the case, then we must change what we want. Or realize we need to make a change without them changing. In the table below ask yourself the following questions, and then fill in the boxes and do what you need to do to get your want.

What exactly can we tell about an unknown substance by it's properties. We already know that a substance is matter that’s made of one kind of atom or molecule, and that has specific properties and that some substances are elements, which means they can’t be broken down into other substances through physical changes or chemical reactions. We also know that we can group substances and elements by their properties. We know that metals have high reflectivity and magnetivity. What else do we know about metals?

This awesome video introduces the field of engineering and how it has and continues to impact our everyday lives. It addresses how we are able to travel from place, communicate, cook, build things, search the internet and much more because engineers ask themselves how and why things work. They design and build things to solve problems. Engineers ask themselves three very important questions while they are working: 1. What is the problem that needs to be solved? 2. Who has the problem that needs to be solved? 3. Why is this problem important to solve? Each type of engineer is outlined with examples of how and why their work is changing our daily lives.
