Shifting Minds 3.0 Redefining the Learning Landscape in Canada
Rating
0.0 stars

"Shifting Minds 3.0: Redefining the Learning Landscape in Canada offers a vehicle for learning systems to reflect and inspire innovation that supports competency and resiliency in a global economy."

KEY MESSAGES
"*Surface changes in education will not equip students for the 21st century: change is needed at the core of educational practice.
*Whole-system reform requires conditions that support educators in examining and reshaping the foundations on which their practice is built.
*A dual strategy of both improvement and innovation is required to maintain stability while enabling forward momentum.
*Leaders watch for the fine balance between the need for autonomy to innovate at the school level and the desire for systemic and sustainable improvement.
*Diversity is messy but critical in order to minimize ‘group think’ and maximize the possible solutions that will meet real-world needs.
*Insights from complexity theory can help leaders think outside the box of the traditional system to inspire and spread positive changes.
*Change is inevitable: transformation is possible."

TV Reality Show PBL

Role and Situation
Students are a team of television producers. They have been asked to create a reality show that has the participants engage in challenges, tasks, choices and survival type situations. The reality show will consist of 3 - 5 episodes. The team will end the project with a brief presentation to a room of entertainment executives to "pitch" their show and a 20 –60 second commercial or promotional video of their show.
This PBL was created to extend student learning from the unit “Finding the Courage”. Specifically, my students studied the novel Hatchet by Gary Paulsen, and I wanted to create a meaningful connection for them that attaches to real-world situations. Students are competing against their other classmates to create the best possible Reality TV show, as well as they are utilizing critical thinking, creativity, communication, collaboration, and computer and digital technologies.

Summary: Infographics have become a very popular method of sharing information. Students learned how to read infographics by looking at various examples of basic graphics and then expanded to a wide variety of methods used to show information on different topics.
The theme that was being focused on was An Eye on the Natural and Technological Environment. Because of rotation of themes, I ended up with three grades doing the same theme, however they covered their own outcomes for their grade as can be seen above.

Work Place and Apprenticeship Math 30- What Bank To Use When Starting A Small Business

In this lesson student will be developing an idea for a possible small business that they would like to start and run. Once they have developed an idea for a business they will have to research what services different financial institutions offered in their area, or the province. Once they have finished seeing what services are out there, students will then have to decide what institution they would like to use, and determine what requirements they need to meet from the bank. Depending on how much time you would like to spend on this you could have students even come up with a loan proposal and a business plan as well. This can be done in partners or the students can work on the alone as well.
