It can be really important to separate out chemicals for all kinds of reasons. Today we’re going over three different processes engineers use to achieve that separation: distillation, which separates substances based on their different boiling points; liquid-liquid extraction, which uses differences in solubility to transfer a contaminant into a solvent; and reverse osmosis, which filters molecules from a solvent by pressurizing it through a semipermeable barrier.

"Math Before Bed is a collection of prompts that can inspire mathematical discussions that you and your children can have before bed, at dinner, or anytime.
Each prompt on this site shows you and your child a perplexing problem. Sometimes there is one right answer and sometimes there are many right answers. The purpose of each question is to generate a discussion about HOW you determined an answer. If you find one answer, try to find another. You could complete one prompt a night, or many prompts."
You can filter prompts using the STRANDS tab at the top of the page into number sense, patterning, geometry, measurement or probability.

This artifact demonstrates the implementation of Math as a Blended Learning opportunity for my colony classroom students. The following is a unit created for the grade two addition strand. The unit progression is guided by a checklist that is given to the students. They use this checklist as a tool to monitor learning as they move through the unit material at their own pace. This along with the coordination of guided teacher instruction during mini lessons around skill areas that were identified as “gaps” during the preassessment. This checklist incorporates the use of Mathletics for support and extra practice (Learning Management System). The materials chosen to include for independent practice are from Math Makes Sense, Maximizing Math, Math-Aids.com and several other materials that were available to support the needs of learning.
