The resource Sample Math Outcome Questions: An Assessment Resource for Teachers:

• provides possible questions, sample responses and rubrics for classroom instruction and assessment.
• is not mandatory.
• was created to support the teaching and learning of mathematics.
• can be adapted by teachers to meet the individual needs of their students.
• can be used before, during and/or after classroom instruction as formative or summative assessment(s).
• is designed to elicit responses that inform teachers’ understanding of the skills and concepts that students need to know, understand and are able to do.

This resource primarily assesses students using written response. Indicators that include terms such as research or collect data (for example) are ideally assessed by means other than a written response. Subsequently, teachers must keep in mind that using this resource provides only one of many forms of evidence that teachers collect to report on student achievement of the outcome. 

Each resource includes the outcome, indicator, sample assessment and answer key.

In this unit of study, students will be asked to complete a performance task (create a brochure) in which they design a country that will provide a productive and positive place for people to live. They will develop a constitution for the country that they created.

This project is a year long in-depth inquiry project into the Pacific Rim Region and is fully based on the grade seven social studies curriculum. It does not function as a curriculum replacement but as a "vehicle" to learn the suggested concepts and strategies. The difference is that in this type of approach, you have an individual connection to a region. The project will connect to real-world issues by exploring how geographical features, climate, and available resources influence different Pacific Rim countries, both historically and now. Throughout the entire year it is always easy for you to see the importance and practicality of learning such skills.

This resource is an editable PDF and Excel Spreadsheet for Grade 7 Physical Education. The resource will calculate grades as well as provide a snapshot summary for each outcome.

This resource is created to support Grade 7 teachers in Sun West with the Pre and Post Reading Assessment that is done every two years. In additions to supporting the assessment process, there are best practices for using Before, During and After Reading Strategies in our ELA classrooms.

This assessment was developed and used for a larger assignment that we had planned for in this unit. I interned in GSSD, and they go by 4 point scale (Beginning, Developing, Meeting and Exceeding), so this is what the rubric my class and I created it to be centered around. I wanted the students input on the way they were being assessed, so they understood what I was looking for and they fully understood how they were being marked. Most of the time students either gloss over their assessment and forget about it or don't even look at it at all. I wanted to change that, and thought this would be a great way to do that. We created this rubric on the smart board before I typed it up, and had students put their input into it and talk about what was fair, too easy or too hard to accomplish. I included the outcomes in the rubric as well because the students are familiar that they will be marked in levels rather than percentages now. I rewrote the outcome into an I Can (Partners Can) statement so it was easier for them to understand. This took almost a whole class to complete but by the end of it the students were more confident with what they needed to do to receive a good grade. We talked about what a good video would look like it and they could hardly wait to get started!
I find this to fit right into 21st century teaching as it opens up the communication and collaboration between myself and the students. I had the opportunity to listen to their needs and wants and incorporate some of them into the rubric. I also found that the students felt responsible for this and wanted to 'live up' to the expectations they created. This assignment allowed students to get creative and collaborate with each other for ideas as well! This was a big success for me because students knew their expectations all the time, they had tons of fun, learnt a lot about the technology and programs behind making a video and truly enjoyed being part of the assessment process. I Hope you enjoy it and maybe even use it someday in the future!
