In this session, we explore four different choice menus you can do in your online classroom. These menus range from closed / teacher-centered to open / student-centered. I'll walk you step-by-step through each type of choice menu so that you can craft a practical choice menu for your students.

Choice boards are a great way to provide voice and choice to your students in their PeBL learning journey. Please see the PowerPoint presentation attached for more information.

This choice board can be used for the students "that are always done everything" either at home or at school.

You can set your own expectations about how many students will complete along with them, but I'd suggest starting with just one and see how it goes.

You've heard of choice boards, but explore boards are different, and I really think you'll want to give them a try!

Explore Boards are great to introduce a new unit of study to develop background knowledge and vocabulary. They can also be used for studying, becoming an expert in an area to share back (like a jigsaw), support inquiry or research projects, provide context, etc.!

These boards promote personalized learning - student voice and choice as well as autonomy. You can let the students free for 20-30 minutes to explore the options as they see fit, or assign a few options to a group to share back, and students can refer back to these Explore Boards during the entire unit to build a deeper understanding. The only limit on how to use these boards is your imagination!

(But don't worry, this article provides many examples!)

It is composed of activities that encourage students to think critically and creatively, document their learning, reflect on these unconventional learning experiences, and share what they’ve worked on with their peers.

A Year of Wellness for Middle Years was created by Sun West School Division teachers involved in the Mental Wellness PLC to support integrating all areas of wellness into the daily lives of our students and enhance their wellbeing. This resource includes monthly activities connected to the Middle Years leaning outcomes for each domain of wellness: Physical, Mental, Emotional, Spiritual, and Social. Students can work on this project independently, with their family, or as a class!
