Beginning Reading Instruction (BRI)/Advanced Reading Instruction (ARI) is a highly researched, and simple reading program that helps children learn to decode.

A teaching guide, along with the three sets of books, and the booster set (extra practice) are all you need to begin teaching a child to read. Additional materials, such as tests to make sure a child has mastered the skills after they complete each set, and ways to keep track of progress are included.

Each book set offers a drop down menu featuring the book, suggestions for looking through and discussing the book and story questions.

This site offers free Research-Based, Teacher-Approved Texts for supporting decoding and beyond.

How it works:
- Beyond Decodables aim to support young readers success in reading by allowing children the chance to decode words in a meaningful context.
- Use the "Beyond Decodables Scope and Sequence" chart to pick the right text for your student(s).
- Most texts are available in digital editions (projectable PDFs) and printer-friendly editions.

The Can Do Kids website is full of ready-made resources to support teachers and learners in their study of orthography.

You have to sign up for an account, then can download free resources, including beautiful posters, that are connected to picture books supporting a variety of orthographic lessons. Please note, some items have a cost, but there are still many free resources on this site.

This resource will help you determine a student's progression in reading and spelling skills. Remember to always start with the lowest skill not mastered.

Choose a grade level to access weekly student practice packets for both the Reading Horizons Discovery® and Reading Horizons Elevate® reading programs. These student packets provide more than enough activities for a week of at-home skill practice and application.

Each grade has links to student materials, answer keys, and the accompanying video lessons.

It can be challenging to navigate the many subtests that can be used in universal screening! Skilled reading involves the integration of many subskills. This chart can be used to identify the most pressing need for instruction. For older students – start at the top and work your way down to find the lowest barrier skill. For younger students learning to read (Kindergarten and grade 1), start at the bottom and work your way up to find the next skill to teach.

Early reading screening is an evidence-based way for educators and leaders to understand student and system risk. This document supports educators in understanding and making decisions about assessment and instruction.
