More and more classrooms are using weblogs as a tool for sharing and reflecting on learning experiences. Some teachers use weblogs as a communication tool, posting regular updates about the classroom so that parents are kept informed about classroom activities. Others teachers invite students to use blogs as a way to publish final written products such as stories, and critiques. Blogs can also be used to share rough drafts, and first impressions, to chronicle an entire learning journey. This course provides language development opportunities in the four skill areas (listening, speaking, reading, and writing), in representing, and in viewing. Initial emphasis will be on developing oral language skills but all literacy readiness skills are incorporated.
Furthermore, since basic numeracy skills are needed for everyday communication and academic life, these students will gain awareness of the relationship between language and numbers. Students will have the chance to explore a range of practical and academic math applications. Students will have opportunities to develop basic English language skills for communicating about self, family, school and community as well as the literacy, language and skills needed for .eventual participation in ELA and other content areas. Finally, this course helps students develop confidence to learn in a formal setting and reduce the gap between the students’ age and the target academic skills for their age group.

Students will be utilizing the program Musescore (a program available to download for free) to create a composition for their instrument. They will utilize the instant feedback given by the computer program to make adjustments to their piece until they are satisfied with how it sounds. It will allow them to create music in a structured environment that will force them to have an understanding of rhythm as well as the limits of both their playing and their instrument in a risk free environment. Students, upon completing their assignments will then need to perform their short song for the class. After a students has completed the solo assignment, they will have an understanding of how to use them Musescore and will allow them to move onto a more collaborative activity.

Identifying unknown individuals is a key part of forensic anthropology. Anthropologists assist in identifications primarily by constructing a biological profile. This includes estimating age, sex, stature, and ancestry, as well as identifying specific characteristics, like diseases or injuries. In addition to helping identify human remains, the anthropologist analyzes injuries that happened around the time of a person's death, which can help determine how a person died. To do these things, an anthropologist begins by asking a series of important questions.

You may have seen police and crime lab work on television but what is a real forensic science investigation like? This site includes information and activities that recreate some of the challenges forensics experts deal with. You will learn first-hand about forensics by taking on the roles of Forensic Archaeologists, Anthropologists, Entomologists, Botanists, DNA Analysts, and Stable Isotope Analysts. Students explore a range of print and non-print resources through extensive online inquiry activities. Progressing from individual work to a group learning project, the unit culminates in publishing the group's findings in topic-based newspapers.
