Have you ever wondered what distinguishes phonological awareness and phonics? What about what makes them related? Those questions will be answered using straightforward mnemonics and examples that will help you teach students these skills more easily.

Students will observe and practice production of three letter sounds (phonemes) and learn associated letters (graphemes). The lesson incorporates structured literacy principles in fun, student-friendly games appropriate for tier 1, 2, and 3 instruction. Students advance from phonological awareness to pure phonics practice while also building background knowledge. This lesson is aligned to the Sprouting Sounds and Veggie Village games in WORD Force.

Reading 101 is a self-paced professional development course for K-3 teachers, developed by Reading Rockets. The program provides teachers with an in-depth knowledge of reading and writing so they are prepared to guide their students into becoming skilled and enthusiastic readers and writers.

Word Connections is a supplemental reading intervention program.

It includes 40 lessons (40 min each), divided into four units of instruction.

Developed for students in third grade and above who continue to experience challenges with word reading even though they have developed foundational decoding skills.

The lessons focus on promoting automaticity with reading “big words.”

Using morphology as the framework to teach students how to learn the meaning of words that are new or unfamiliar to them.

In 2022, two collaborative groups of Australian educators formed to create Syntax & Punctuation and Morphology resources.

These resources are available for free to promote a culture of sharing and collaboration amongst schools.

The lessons can be edited and adapted to reflect the topics & curriculum content taught in your classroom.
