Highlights of the course:
- Learn to implement practical activities dealing with issues relating to global conflict, bystanders, human rights, international law, refugees, child soldiers, gender-based violence and attacks on civilians, hospitals and schools.
- Exploring Humanitarian Law (EHL) educator training utilizes an easy-to-use, adaptable toolkit aimed at students 13 – 18 years of age.
- The content of the EHL educator training complements academic subjects such as global issues, social studies, history, law, and language arts.
- Includes instruction from Canadian Red Cross personnel and trained local teachers currently using the Exploring Humanitarian Law (EHL) curriculum in their classrooms.
- Participants utilize the Exploring Humanitarian Law toolkit, Canada and Conflict toolkit, and Forced to Fight.
- Participants will receive a certificate of completion.
- This training will be conducted in English but all above mentioned resources are also available in French.

The Canadian Reference Centre includes English and French full-text biographies, reference materials and an image collection.  This database is a great choice for students who want to keep up with current events.

Canadian Research Index includes federal, provincial, and municipal documents such as depository publications of research value issued by the federal government, the ten provinces, and two of the three territories.Please note this is not a fulltext database.

The Canadian Space Agency site has lots of fun stuff for students including fun experiments, fun stuff, podcasts, quizzes and more.

The Grade 6 and 8 Social Studies classes will collaboratively create a display
demonstrating Canadian treaties. This will provide the students with an
opportunity to be engaged in a high-level task, discussing, making shared
decisions, and designing a product that demonstrates deeper learning.

There are worksheets on personal values, characteristics, abilities, interests and occupations. The labour market section allows students to explore occupational information, interview tips and career and sector exploration web pages to help identify career pathways for students.This is a comprehensive workbook to help guide students through career exploration. Researching occupations may seem overwhelming. This guide will take you step-by-step to get clear about what you want and how to get there. This guide is 74 pages and contains 3 sections:Section 1. Know Yourself will help you define your personal profile (values, personal characteristics, abilities, and interests) and identify possible occupations that will fit your profile.Section 2. Know the Labour Market will show you how to research possible occupations using the Internet, networking and interviews with people.Section 3. Put It All Together will help you to establish a career goal and develop an action plan to reach that goal.

Game Instructions and Career Jenga Questions:
On the blocks of the Jenga game, the teacher will write different career-related questions for students to answer. These questions should help students further explore Career Education curriculum Goals and Outcomes.

This game can be played different ways, be creative!

Students will become aware of how career planning is influenced by their present situation, which includes their self-concept, friends, family, community and available resources. Students will recognize that career planning is affected by what they know about the future concerning themselves, friends, family, community and available resources. Students will acknowledge that career planning reflects personal goals and lifestyle goals. Students will consider career plans that accommodate change and growth in their personal life and their family life, as well as in the world of work. Students will develop the lifelong skill of making career planning decisions that reflect personal goals, lifestyle goals and career goals. Students will develop and apply successful job search skills. Students will become familiar with employee interview skills which they can apply, now and in the future, to getting a job and perhaps to changing jobs. Students will consider those skills and attitudes needed to retain a job. Students will develop the lifelong skills of making decisions about job search, changing jobs, retaining jobs and job loss.

This content contains grade level Personal Finance Case Studies, resources to help teachers teach, helpful guides for teachers to write their own case studies and sample case presentations and videos of past students. These are great resources to enhance your teachings, use as projects or year end assignments and to prepare students for case based instruction in their future post secondary or at case competitions.

Students will learn the consequences of not paying one’s debts and the choices of last resort for out-of-control debt. Students will explain how using [types of predatory loans] can cause a vicious cycle of debt. Bankruptcy is also introduced, and the various costs associated with bankruptcy are outlined. The students will discover what steps a person can take to avoid filing for bankruptcy, including seeing a credit counselor.

Challenging hate online (Grades 10-12)
In this lesson, students learn how digital media is used to promote or combat hatred and intolerance. After discussing the different ways that hate organizations get their messages out and how digital media have the potential to work against hatred, students visit and analyze anti-hate initiative websites.

In this talk from RSA Animate, Sir Ken Robinson lays out the link between 3 troubling trends: rising drop-out rates, schools' dwindling stake in the arts, and ADHD. An important, timely talk for parents and teachers.
