First Nations people view learning as a continuous process throughout one’s life cycle. The First Nations Holistic Lifelong Learning Model captures this complex, inclusive and integrated process that also incorporates the many forms of intelligence.  It is a visually appealing tool for revealing the forces that operate through our life cycle. It is a way to honour learning that includes students as well as everyone in the learning community. The Model identifies the many factors that influence our development and learning, providing many insights into the nature of these influences.  
This Plain Talk looks at learning and intelligence holistically and provides a significant new perspective and approach that is consistent with First Nations values and principles.

The SSBA offers First Nations and Métis Education Services, in support of its strategic plan and the Indigenous Council. The Indigenous Council consists of all self-identified First Nations and Métis school board members in Saskatchewan. The Indigenous Council elects one member to act as the Indigenous Constituency Representative on the SSBA Provincial Executive. Currently, the Council represents 11 per cent of all Saskatchewan school board trustees. Prior to the October 2016 school board elections, nine per cent of all Saskatchewan school board trustees had self-declared as Indigenous.

The Food 2050 Series is a collection of videos from The Rockefeller Foundation about regenerative agriculture and food sustainability across the globe. A specific Saskatchewan example that connects to Indigenous agricultural practices is included.

As climate chaos increases around the world, Michelle Week, a farmer outside of Portland Oregon is drawing on her Sinixt indigenous knowledge to adapt her farm to the changing seasons. By practicing techniques like seed saving and dry farming, Michelle is combating the increasing food security crisis while continuing to provide fresh food to her local community.

Women of the Earth is a new show on PBS Terra, produced by Summer Moon Productions, featuring stories of women across America who are leading a new movement to restore and protect the land. By focusing on women in land stewardship roles like farmers and shepherds, the series will explore women’s unique relationship to the earth and their innovative undertakings to heal the earth from climate change.

As stated in the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, and by numerous writers, activists, politicians, poets and Indigenous peoples themselves, a nation’s culture is central to its identity and viability. To understand how a culture can be affected by the presence of external forces, it’s important to understand the complexity of the word “culture.”
