The plan for our school this year was to incorporate critical thinking and collaboration into creating an atmosphere where our students were more aware of their health and to be more physically active. We provided them with information and encouraged them to think critically and deeper as to why their health and physical fitness are so very important.
Students collaboratively worked in teams to make up their own games or to play games designated by the teacher.
We also incorporated daily Brain Gym activities into their fitness regime. We felt these exercises beneficial for students to do at the beginning of each day. These exercises integrate the brain and body and enhance learning ability and academic performance.
We also set up a fitness circuit. Students were tested three times during the year and were encouraged to improve their previous testing time

Healthier Me: Elementary School (Grade Alike Planning GAP Focus)
Rating
0.0 stars

The choices students learn to make when they’re young can have a lasting impact on their lifetime well-being, happiness, and academic success. But 96% of elementary schools are unable to provide daily physical education.

EVERFI’s Healthier Me is an innovative, games-based elementary school health curriculum that educates elementary school students about the importance of well-balanced meals and physical activity. These elementary health lesson plans prepare students to make healthy, informed decisions when it comes to nutrition and fitness, securing a healthier and happier future for the next generation.

This course could easily be extended to having students create an action plan (Health Education DM and AP outcomes) based on what they have learned in this course.

If your heart is healthy it will be able to work for a very long time.
It is up to you to keep your heart healthy.
Your heart will like it if you:
1. Exercise every day
You need to exercise your heart by making it work harder for at least 30
minutes a day. Our topics on 'Fitness' and 'Exercise' will show you how
2. Eat a healthy diet
Too much fatty food will block up the arteries with fat and your heart will
have to work harder and harder just to do its regular job of pumping
blood round your body. See our topics in the 'Your food' category to learn
about the foods your body needs and what your heart likes
3. Drink lots of water every day rather than fizzy drinks
4. Make good choices as you grow older. You can choose not to smoke, not
to take illegal drugs and not to drink too much alcohol

As you play videos, you also earn virtual coins to allocate in our Kid Power Exchange®. Choose to support food banks or deliver PPE masks (both essential to COVID-19 relief), or plant trees for your local community!

Learning what affects/impacts our overall wellness

In this mini unit, students will develop the knowledge and understanding of factors that can affect their overall wellness. They will work in groups to become experts on a topic related to the outcomes (i.e. nutrition, physical activity, relationships, mental health, environment) and present their findings to the rest of class. They will need to make the connections between their topic and the elements of the wellness wheel, and come up with strategies to improve overall wellness/balance the wheel.
