The Great War Video Series
Key Canadian battles during the First World War led to the march to victory in 1918.

Created by Canada’s History — October 1, 2018
When the First World War began in 1914, Canada had no choice — as part of the British Empire, the country was automatically at war.

More than 650,000 Canadians served over the course of the four-year conflict, an impressive number for a population of around eight million. And, through its successes on the battlefield, Canada proved itself many times. But the fighting took its toll; by the end of the war, more than 66,000 Canadians had been killed, and another 172,000 had been wounded.

November 11, 2018, marks the hundredth anniversary of the end of the First World War. Here are just a few key Canadian battles along the road to armistice in 1918.

Greek Comedy, Satyrs, and Aristophanes: Crash Course Theater #4
Rating

Get ready for hilarity, because this week, we're diving head first into Greek Comedy. Actually, though, maybe don't get TOO ready for hilarity. Taste in humor has changed a little over the last couple of thousand years. You already know about Greek Tragedies, with their hamartia and catharsis and whatnot. Today we're going to look at how Greek comedy evolved out of those tragedies, first as Satyr plays, and later as full-blown comedies. So come along. There are a few laughs involved, I promise.

Using a teacher made wikispace; each student was given a God to
first research and become an expert in order to take on that God’s
role on Mount Olympus. After the research was completed,
students were given a scenario where all of their God’s have been
kicked off of Mount Olympus by Zeus and they must now defeat
him by use of the wiki. They will need to complete twelve
“labours” in order to reach the top, and Zeus. Students completed
a variety of assignments in order to learn about Greece and
Mythology in an interactive style; allowing for student discovery,
utilization of all learning styles, and giving students the
opportunity to take learning into their own hands.

In summary, the purpose of this artifact was to increase the amount of group collaboration and critical thinking in my PAA classes. Typically in my PAA class, students pick a project and follow strict plans that will lead to their resulting projects. This group activity will require students to collaborate and think critically in order to come up with their own way to accomplish a simple task.

Guided Math Upper Elementary

Guided math is about having students work and learn at their own pace, place and choice. Being that students work at their own pace they are provided a variety of choice within learning strategies and learning environments.

Environment: Students have choice of where they want to work and how they want to work. They are able to work at their desks, at a table, on the couch/carpet or at the computers. They are able to choose to work alone, work with technology, work with a pair or work with a teacher.

Learning: At the beginning of each outcome students receive a document which is very structured information about where they are and where they need to go. This document also displays student achievement. **see below** Each student keeps their work in a file folder at the front of the classroom. At the beginning of every class students take their file folder to their desk and begin working. Students are guided to seek their own understanding by using their textbook, an iPad or a peer. The resources used are Saskatchewan Outcome Based Assessments, Sun West Moodle, Mathletics, ePearson textbooks and Math Makes Sense Textbooks.

Guided Mindful Moment - Digital Wellness Break: Tense and Release (Relaxation)
Rating
0.0 stars

Give your eyes a break with this audio-only Digital Wellness Break. Follow along as teacher Stephanie's voice guides you step-by-step through "Tense and Release," a mind-body-breath integration that's designed for children and effective for all ages.

TODAY’S MINDFUL MOVEMENT
🦦 TENSE AND RELEASE 🦦

“It’s the end of a very long day. Back-to-back-to-back meetings. You sign-off from work, gather your belongings, rush out the door... only to get stuck in traffic. Tension rises.

A busy lifestyle with no time to relax can lead to frustration, tension, and chronic stress.

Making time in our busy days to mindfully unwind can help. Tense and Release is one of our favorite relaxation exercises to do just this. By consciously tensing and releasing our bodies, we are able to tune out what is going on outside and tune in to what’s going on inside. And in tune, consciously let go of the tension and stress we carry.

This audio-only relaxation will allow you to return to a state of balance. Just hit 'play' and give your eyes a rest for the next four minutes.” (Yoga Ed.)
