A competitive and interactive quiz game that tests your student's knowledge about agriculture. It is a fun and engaging way to challenge students to see who knows the most about how our food is made, agriculture, and much more, in a classroom or at home. With beginner, intermediate, and expert levels it can be used for a variety of different age levels.

This is a group project I use when teaching body systems in grade 5. Each group is assigned a specific body system to research, write about, create a diagram, and then present to the class. Once all groups have presented to the class, I give each student a test, to assess how much information they understood.

This resource contains an abundance of ELA infused, cross-curricular lessons organized by themes for Grades 4, 5 and 6. Non-fiction, poetry and fiction reading lessons are all included. 

"The Compassion Project is a web-based learning platform focusing on social and emotional learning (SEL) strengths like compassion and empathy. It begins with a tutorial, which students can always access by clicking the help button in the upper left corner. Each lesson starts with a pre-quiz to assess what students already know. After that, a bright and colorful two-minute video with cartoon characters describes the topic for the lesson. Four characters (Tye, Brandon, Alex, and David) narrate the videos in story format. After the video plays, there are reflection questions in the format of a text messenger app that students can click to answer. Characters introduce the SEL skills by describing what the skill (e.g., compassion) looks, sounds, and feels like.

Each skill has three activity lessons. For compassion, students identify when someone needs help and learn how to act with kindness. For empathy, students "see" life through the perspective of different characters. For mindfulness, students practice a breathing technique. Teachers can then provide debriefing and offline extension activities.

The teacher dashboard allows instructors to manage students, add classes, and re-teach when needed. Quiz grades are automatically uploaded and students can access their score by hovering over each lesson." (Common Sense Media)

This unit consists of five lessons and is recommended for grades 5-8.  The five lessons consist of:The Cat's Out of the Bag - students investigate the morphology, physical characteristics, and physical adaptations of four cat speciesMountain Mixer - students participate in a role playing, systems thinking activity to understand the relationships among species before constructing a food webIt Takes All Kinds of People - students participate in a town hall meeting in an effort to reach a concensus regarding conservation plansWhat's the Plan? - students explore the emerging issues through simulation activitiesTaking Action - students are led through a service-learning project of their choosing to raise money to donate*Planet earth videos referenced in the activities are available on YouTube.

We currently offer 3 school programs:
1. Little Legislators Scavenger Hunt: 40-60 minutes, Pre-K to Grade 3 - Students will participate in a scavenger hunt for Saskatchewan symbols, and important people and objects in the Legislative Building. They learn about what government does in the building, monarchy connections, treaty maps and Indigenous leaders in Saskatchewan, and more.
2. Let's Get Legislative: 2 hours, Grades 4 to 12 - Students will gain an in-depth understanding of the function of the Legislative Building and of the elected members of the Assembly, and have the opportunity to ask their school’s MLA questions about what they see and learn in the Chamber. The Let's Get Legislative tour is only available when the Assembly is in session. For this program, please refer to the parliamentary calendar to select a date when the Assembly will be sitting.
3. Standard School Tour: 30 minutes, all grades - Our 30-minute tour, tailored to your students’ grade level. Learn the history of the building, government, the Westminster parliamentary tradition, and more.

This is a great project to do later in the year once students have practiced independent research skills. Students are put into groups, and assigned a "big idea" form the power and authority strand to research and present to the class.
