Flipgrid is social learning for PreK to PhD learners ... and beyond!

Teachers can create grids and add topics.

Grids are the meeting place for your classroom, your school, your department or any learning community to discuss your Topics.

Start with an icebreaker, add weekly reflections, share book talks, explore STEM principles, give mini-presentations ... any Topic to ignite discussion!

This writing continuum was created by Kenaston School (Nicole Duley and Cindy Menzies). It has taken the writing outcomes for Grades K-8 and organized them in a scope and sequence. This can be used to track individual student progress through the outcomes and follow the student through the grades to support in the implementation of the PeBL philosophy and the creation of personalized goals.

Student's self evaluation of their learning behaviours 3 times a year, at report card time. A teacher observation list as well to use. This would need to change to meet the slightly different high school learning behaviors for Sun West.

Rube Goldberg machines are a fun and innovative way to integrate 21st century skills into your math, science, STEM or design learning class.
Rube Goldberg machines involve using a series of complex steps to do a simple task.
Students first begin reflecting on what 21st century skills they will need to pull this activity off. Then they must make an effective plan as a group before they are able to gather their materials and build. The plan can (and likely should!) change as they work and that is fine. Students should reflect on their 21st century skills daily to give them an opportunity to regroup and refocus as needed.
This is really a fun and valuable activity! This version was done a 7/8 Math class.

The following are a set of daily checklists students can use to reflect on each individual SECRET skill. The log has the students rate themselves on the sub skills of the big skill as well as set a goal for what they need to focus on to improve the next day.

"How are our students doing? Who needs our support right now?"

This year, checking in on students frequently and consistently is even more critical to creating a safe and supportive learning environment.

Administrators and educators can these questions during a morning meeting, advisory period, small group intervention, or general class time to:

Check in on student well-being and supports
Do an interim SEL skills and competencies check
Gather classroom feedback to inform instruction
Identify the students who need extra help right now academically, socially, and emotionally

This activity makes students aware of how well they are self-managing or regulating.
It ASKS : "Today when you are working, there will be a clock or timer on the SMARTBoard. At random intervals, you will hear a beep or a bell. When you hear the sound, reflect on your behaviour. Are you self-managing?"
Students complete the chart attached to measure their growth and ability to self-manage or regulate.

Assessment can be used to guide goal setting and explicit teaching of skills.

This is a reflection that students can fill out to self-asses their SECRET 21st century skills as well as look at their strengths and weakness.

Before each activity look at the "What Skills Do I Need?" attachment and discuss what needs to be done. Then show them the specific challenge - plan and do it! After have the kids complete the related reflection. All files below.
