These materials may be used in a variety of contexts such as staff meetings, professional learning groups, workshops, school councils and community gatherings. The sample conversation questions and actions may also be useful for individual teacher reflection and planning."

The Sixties Scoop refers to a period in Saskatchewan’s history when Indigenous children were removed from their parents and communities by provincial child welfare services. Status, non-status, Métis and Inuit children were placed for adoption and/or foster care and were raised outside of their communities without the influences of their Indigenous culture, values and languages. This section contains a list of resources and curriculum connections for teachers to address with their students.

Treaty 4 & 6 Flag Ceremony - Sun West School Division

 On August 30, 2022, a Flag Ceremony was held at the Sun West Learning Centre in Rosetown to welcome the Treaty 6, Treaty 4 and Métis Nation flags to Sun West School Division. Welcoming the flags to the Sun West Learning Centre, which is directly adjacent to the Sun West Division Office, recognizes that Sun West is on Treaty territory as well as the School Division’s commitment to the Calls to Action of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, in particular those that relate to education.  The Flag Ceremony was held in conjunction with the first Sun West Administrators Meeting (Principals and Vice-Principals) of the 2022-23 school year and so the Administrators of all of Sun West’s schools participated. Most Sun West schools are within Treaty 6 Territory except for Davidson and Loreburn Central Schools that are in Treaty 4 Territory. The entire school division falls within the Métis Nation Homeland.

The First Nations University, Indigenous Continuing Education Centre (ICEC), is proud to offer an exclusive tutorial introducing the National Centre for Collaboration in Indigenous Education (NCCIE) website and its on-line Teaching Resource Centre for Indigenous and non-Indigenous educators. The Teaching Resource Centre is an invaluable tool for all educators. The lesson plans are searchable by subject and grade. Each lesson plan comes complete with learning outcomes, a teacher’s guide,
activities, assessment guidelines, and materials. Lesson plans and videos were co-developed with community partners across Canada in the spirit of reciprocity – to contribute to the growing educational resources that highlight Indigenous perspectives.

The tutorial is designed to highlight the educational videos, stories, and lessons available on the NCCIE website and support learners and educators in their journey of knowing and understanding Indigenous education.

The tutorial will:
• Describe where to locate useful educational resources (e.g., videos, stories, and lessons) on the NCCIE website.
• Identify resources that may be useful in your educational journey or in your teaching practice.
• Examine and implement a variety of website resources into your courses and contexts.
• Assess the support you may need to deliver website content.
• Design a plan for implementing resources from the NCCIE website.
