Adobe Back-to-School Challenge: New You in ’22!
Rating
0.0 stars

This Back-to-School Challenge encourages students (and teachers) use an Adobe multi-page template to create back-to-school goals. That template can then be used to create an Adobe Express video in which voiceovers are added. Then the video can be submitted to a contest where a backpack, including an iPad and Apple Pencil, Rode Video Mic, tablet holder and tripod, power bank, ring light … and more, will be given away to several lucky winners.

Part 1: This short YouTube video gives an overview of the challenge.

For a more in depth video of how to use the template, visit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WUYAFEkeScI

The template itself can be accessed at https://express.adobe.com/sp/design/post/urn:aaid:sc:US:2141641d-87a0-4622-b157-a46db3fdee0f

Part 2 of the challenge involves using the information collected in the Adobe Express template to transform your multi-page portfolio into a reflection video to help guide your year.
Head over to https://edex.adobe.com/challenges?sdid=D4P81QZ8&mv=social&mv2=ownsoc-org for the outline of the video project.

Be sure to view the Part 2 Video Tutorial and the Printable Lesson Plan.

To enter the contest to win the great prizes, fill out and submit the following form by September 30: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSe-RraSiOATA9mrJ6pGZtVML4iBb10HLXCVVT8oZuip3w6zDw/viewform

Adobe Firefly - Free Artificial Intelligence (AI) Image Generator & Suggested Activities
Rating
0.0 stars

This AI Image generator is FREE and:
*Creates great, clean images
*Very easy to use
*Allows you to create in different shapes
*Side panel lets you select options (instead of remembering to type them in your prompt)
*Image watermark makes it clear that images are AI-created (but is very bold)
*Has lots of other AI image tools beyond "text to image" like generative fill, text effects, recoloring and more

(SaskDLC has access to the paid version with no watermark).

Ditch That Textbook Suggests These Activities with AI Images:
💬 Generate images for a comic strip with an AI image generator, then students add speech/thought bubbles in Google Slides or PPT
🗣 Create a "Caption This" activity where students speak for a character in an AI-generated image
📝 Students add AI-generated images about a topic of study to visual notes they're creating
📚 AI generates an image of an alternate ending for a story and students narrate it
📍 Have AI create a map and have students give directions or describe it
✍️ "Reverse caption this": Students write the dialogue and ask AI to create an image for it
❓ What if activity: Students write an alternate story (like the Marvel show, "What if...?") and AI generates an image

Advanced CPU Designs: Crash Course Computer Science #9
Rating
0.0 stars

So now that we’ve built and programmed our very own CPU, we’re going to take a step back and look at how CPU speeds have rapidly increased from just a few cycles per second to gigahertz! Some of that improvement, of course, has come from faster and more efficient transistors, but a number hardware designs have been implemented to boost performance. And you’ve probably heard or read about a lot of these - they’re the buzz words attached to just about every new CPU release - terms like instruction pipelining, cache, FLOPS, superscalar, branch prediction, multi-core processors, and even super computers! These designs are pretty complicated, but the fundamental concepts behind them are not. So bear with us as we introduce a lot of new terminology including what might just be the best computer science term of all time: the dirty bit. Let us explain.

The Adventures of Amelia the Pigeon
Read the Fine Print
Rating
0.0 stars

This story, featuring a pigeon named Amelia, takes place in New York City. Amelia's owner, a young girl named Maria, receives a gift from her grandfather-a camera specially designed for strapping on to a pigeon along with copies of old photographs taken of New York City landmarks. Suddenly, Amelia's flights around the city take on new relevance; she visits the Bronx Zoo, Central Park and Battery Park to take updated pictures of those same landmarks from her "birds-eye" perspective. Through Amelia's adventures, and with some help from a NASA scientist, Maria learns about the history of aerial images, the use of images to detect changes over time, the significance of color, texture and shape in interpreting those images, and the importance of images taken from today's NASA satellites to our understanding of Earth.

Students experiment with a new material—aerogel. Aerogel is a synthetic (human-made) porous ultra-light (low-density) material, in which the liquid component of a gel is replaced with a gas. In this activity, student pairs use aerogel to simulate the environmental engineering application of cleaning up oil spills. In a simple and fun way, this activity incorporates density calculations, the material effects of surface area, and hydrophobic and hydrophilic properties.
