In this Andy Warhol-inspired art project, students attempt to replicate Warhol's original flower artwork.
This paper grid art is a fun way to explore positive and negative shapes, and all you need are a few basic art supplies. The symmetrical shapes and the contrast of the colored paper against the black background makes this project "pop."
Positive and negative space can be tricky concepts to teach. The Japanese art of notan, some simple leaf shapes, and a quick intro to complementary colors is a fun way to explore the idea.
Students will discuss works of art that have grotesque elements and symmetry in their design. They will identify symmetry and line in grotesques. Students will create symmetrical designs for a pilgrim bottle and also design a door panel using grotesques. They will then analyze William Blake's poem "The Tiger" and write their own grotesque-inspired poetry.

Fostering Remembrance is a part of everything The Legion does. Through The Royal Canadian Legion's longstanding Annual Poster and Literary Contests, Canadian school children honour Canada’s Veterans through creative art and writing, and help perpetuate Remembrance.
Contests are available for students 5 to 18 for posters (colour & black and white), essays and and now a video entry category as well.

Following the included links, and after viewing all of the sites, choose 3 of the artists and their works above to answer the following questions:
A brief description of the artist and his life: date of birth and death, where he lived (what country was he from), his occupation (job), the subject (what he was painting/sculpting) of his artwork
When the artwork was created
Describe what the piece of artwork looks like: include colors, textures, medium (what was used to create it: type of paint, sculpture, photograph…)
Write the quote from beneath each picture
Do you like the artwork? Why or why not?
What does the artwork make you think about? What does it make you feel?
Students will use visual analysis to examine two images of rocks. They will make their own observations of individual rocks through drawing, and understand how the same observation skills can be used in the study of geology.

models and will develop personally meaningful symbols and colour palettes in order to create a mixed media collage representing their own identities. Students will explore collage processes, symbolism, and layering.
Students explore the concept of a sacred place by looking at works of art representing sacred spaces, and studying the California missions. They explore perspective and point of view in both the visual and literary senses. Students create a project poster displaying photos, drawings, and journal writings that incorporate the major themes of California's missions, and use perspective and point of view both visually and in writing.

After studying Baroque paintings, furniture, architecture, and craft guilds, students will create a mixed-media sculpture inspired by Bernard van Risenburgh's Double Desk.
