This resource explains how parents can best prepare for their child's online parent-teacher-student interview. 

ANCIENT ECHOES INTERPRETIVE CENTRE is nestled at the junction of the Coalmine Ravine and the Eagle Creek and offers both indoor and outdoor tours of our Palaeontology sites (dinosaur and fossil displays and dig), Prairie Grasslands Ecology (virgin prairie medicine and food plants, animals in the wild and taxidermy displays), and First Nations History (petroglyphs, rock formations, effigies, archaeological dig, teepee rings, buffalo jump, food processing site, tool artifacts and pottery making displays). A permanent art exhibition by Metis artist, Jo Cooper, expresses a visual and oral story with “The Disappearance and Resurgence of the Buffalo”. Additionally, sculptures outside the centre stimulate the imagination as well as humour.
Ancient Echoes is currently operating under their summer hours, which run from May 7th to August 31st. This means we are open Tuesdays-Sundays from 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM (closed Mondays). Bookings can be made by calling the Centre at 1-306-377-2045 or emailing anciente@sasktel.net. Our Valley View Tea Room is open every Friday from 2:30-4:30 PM in May-August.

Ancient Echoes is a popular site for School Tours throughout the year offering custom-designed programs for students of all ages in the areas of Aboriginal History, Paleontology, Ecology, and Archaeology.

Ancient Echoes also offers regular summer programs including traditional pottery making, drum making, ecology and palaeontology hikes, full moon walks, educational and craft days for children, as well as numerous other “ project” days. A video of the ravine walk is available indoors for “rainy days”, or for those who do not wish to hike.

Ancient Echoes has just recently added a beautiful art gallery space to their walls. Our new Prairie Echoes Gallery offers numerous exhibits throughout the year of new and established artists and photographers.

The Assembly of First Nations has developed the It's Our Time First Nations Tool Kit as the basis of a comprehensive strategy to reach out to First Nations students, teachers, schools, communities and the Canadian public at large. The resource is designed to bring together First Nations and non-First Nations people and foster a spirit of cooperation, understanding, and action.

The Buffalo: A Treaty of Co-operation, Renewal and Restoration.

This site offers the history of this Treaty, the relationships it involves, related films and news articles and access to the Buffalo Treaty blog.

In 2008, a group called the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) was made. Their job was to listen
to stories about residential schools and then write the stories down so we can learn from our mistakes.
In 2015, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission announced their 94 Calls to Action. These are 94
activities all governments, courts, businesses, schools, and people living in Canada can do to help fix the
mistakes of the past and present so that all children – including First Nations, Métis, and Inuit children –
can grow up happy, healthy, safe, and proud of who they are.

This booklet is written by Spirit Bear as a youth-guide to the TRC’s 94 Calls to Action. Each of the calls is outlined in student-friendly language that will give them a deeper understanding of Truth and Reconciliation process.

The lesson plans in Treaties and the Treaty Relationship: Educator’s Guide are framed on the Historical Thinking Concepts and offer teachers interactive instructional approaches that foster engaged student inquiry. They are fortified with maps, weblinks, and supporting Blackline Masters.

Lesson plan themes explore Treaties across Canada from time immemorial to the present, making a concerted link between the past and the future.

As well, each learning activity offers adaptions and/or activities based on the lesson theme for exploring Treaties in grades three to six.

The online Canadian Encyclopedia, funded by the Government of Canada, has a specific site/section on Indigenous
Peoples that includes interactive resources for teachers and others.

Canadian Geographic Education provides learning resources to help improve students’ understanding of the world they live in. Geographically literate students are better prepared to face global challenges and have the skills necessary to become effective change agents. This activity can be used to help find the main idea or keyword from a passage of text. This activity is excellent to develop vocabulary and deepen understanding of the content being examined. 

First Nations people view learning as a continuous process throughout one’s life cycle. The First Nations Holistic Lifelong Learning Model captures this complex, inclusive and integrated process that also incorporates the many forms of intelligence.  It is a visually appealing tool for revealing the forces that operate through our life cycle. It is a way to honour learning that includes students as well as everyone in the learning community. The Model identifies the many factors that influence our development and learning, providing many insights into the nature of these influences.  
This Plain Talk looks at learning and intelligence holistically and provides a significant new perspective and approach that is consistent with First Nations values and principles.

In this lesson students will explore the close relationship First Nations people of Saskatchewan have traditionally had with the natural world. First Nations people grew plants and produced food long before the European settlers began to arrive. Students will examine some aspects of the interdependence of First Nations people with their environment.
From Ag in the Classroom

This Treaty focus will be implemented in the Grade Four Social Studies quite well, and has been a part of the current curricula. My objective is to focus on the Treaty information and the impact that the Indian Act of 1876 had upon the First Nations of Saskatchewan. To do this, I plan to use the government Treaty Kit more, and obtain information from our liaison teachers in the school for materials, ideas and suggestions. In particular, there are Smartboard activities , and interactive websites from FNIM. Much of the Social studies content is on Saskatchewan, the Land, The People, interactions and interdependence of individuals, societies, cultures, and nations. Fitting specific Treaty information and essential learnings can mesh with this subject, though many FNIM topics are also in the Language Arts and Science. My goal is to focus study on the treaties themselves, the Indian Act of 1876, and its implications and results, and through various forms of evaluation, have results that show the students have a better understanding of this goal.

The Children’s Health and Well-being Measure (ACHWM) is a tool that gives Indigenous communities and organizations an overview of the health and well-being of children and youth in their communities.

The measure offers insight into children's Spiritual, Emotional, Physical, and Mental wellness.

The survey is completed on a tablet that engages children and acts as a catalyst for honest conversation. The results are shared with each child or youth in a visual form on the Balance Chart.

The National Centre for Collaboration in Indigenous Education connects communities with each other to share their stories about Indigenous education across Canada and around the world.
