Even though determining a text’s theme is an expectation from grades 1-12, many educators wrestle with how to teach this ELA standard—and plenty more students wrestle with how to figure it out.

Word Connections is a supplemental reading intervention program.

It includes 40 lessons (40 min each), divided into four units of instruction.

Developed for students in third grade and above who continue to experience challenges with word reading even though they have developed foundational decoding skills.

The lessons focus on promoting automaticity with reading “big words.”

For pronunciation help: type in the word you are searching for (in French), hit Enter or click the magnifying glass/search button, and press the speaker button that says 'ECOUTER' beside the result. The purpose of the Mathematics Word Wall is to identify words and phrases
that students need to understand and use so as to make good progress in
mathematics. Mathematical language is crucial to children's development of
thinking. If students do not have the vocabulary to talk about math
concepts and skills, they cannot make progress in understanding these areas
of mathematical knowledge. They need to be familiar with mathematical
vocabulary and mathematical terms to understand written and spoken
instructions.
A structured approach to the teaching and learning of mathematical
vocabulary is essential if students are to begin using the correct
mathematical terminology.

The Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) is Canada's national hazard communication standard. The key elements of the system are hazard classification, cautionary labelling of containers, the provision of (material) safety data sheets ((M)SDSs) and worker education and training programs.

World History Encyclopedia is a non-profit organization publishing the world's most-read history encyclopedia. Its mission is to engage people with cultural heritage and to improve history education worldwide.

The website offers thousands of free history articles, with a writing style aimed at students from middle school level and up. Articles are complemented by videos, timelines, 3D models, and interactive maps. The search function offers many filters, including the possibiliy to search for primary source texts.

Additionally, the organization published free teaching materials in its education section (https://www.worldhistory.org/edu/).

The continuum provides an overview of the writing skills, text forms, and strategies for each grade/course. The continuum is not intended to replace the curricula.

Content
The English Language Arts grades 1–12 compose and create goal is the foundation for this continuum.
Compose and Create (CC)—Students will extend their abilities to write to explore and present thoughts, feelings, and experiences in a variety of forms, for a variety of purposes, for a variety of audiences.
In addition, outcomes and indicators related to writing inform the continuum.

Format
The continuum, providing teachers with a grade 1–12 overview of writing, is organized into the following grade groupings: 1–3; 4–6; 7–9; 10–12.
