Rating
0.0 stars

This multi-disciplinary resource features ten engaging lessons that focus on biodiversity and invasive species. An ecosystem approach provides an authentic context to help students understand what invasive species are and how these plants and animals can significantly impact the vital interdependence of organisms within habitats. Although developed to support the Grade 6 Life Sciences curriculum (Ontario), the strong English Language Arts, Math and Social Studies links make this resource applicable across a broad range of subject areas and grade levels.

In a combination of in-class and outdoor activities students will:

- Define and explore types of invasive species.
- Identify how organisms interact within ecosystems.
- Respond to media information about invasive species.
- Explore a local habitat to find and catalogue native and non-native species.
- Initiate action to inform the community about the prevention of the spread of invasive species.

Irregular and High Frequency Words
Rating
0.0 stars

This site offers instructional activities for irregular and high frequency words. Not all words use the most common phoneme-grapheme correspondences, but most words are at least partially decodable. Many words appear so frequently in text that children need to learn them before they have been taught the necessary phoneme-grapheme correspondences. The resources on this site provide a range of options for you to teach such words.

Joyful June - Action for Happiness
Rating
0.0 stars

"This month's theme is all about finding the joy in life, even when things are difficult. Research has shown that experiencing positive emotions in a 3-to-1 ratio with negative ones leads to a tipping point beyond which we naturally become more resilient to adversity. So let's train our brains to find the joy. You can learn more about the science behind this at our events this month too (details below the calendar)."
