ROVER videos are housed on a server located in a school or school division network so there are no bandwidth issues, resulting in better picture quality and continuous play of videos without pauses. The videos are intended for viewing on the streaming site and not for copying or downloading.
There are approximately 1,500 videos in ROVER’s combined English and French collections that can be accessed by teachers and students to enhance learning in the classroom. All the videos found on this site have been evaluated by educational professionals and recommended to support Saskatchewan’s K-12 curricula. It remains the responsibility of educators to preview and select materials that best meet the needs of their students, school, and community. Educators should choose resources in accordance with their school division’s learning resources selection policy.
ROVER is accessible from within Saskatchewan schools or school division offices without a login. Outside of school, it is possible to access ROVER using a login through a Blackboard account. On November 25th, the Grade 1-2’s invited their parents in to participate in a
simulated tour through the rainforest, which was set up in our classroom. The kids
created models of all the animals we studied in our unit, and helped me create
a rainforest canopy, and river in our room. We strategically placed the animals,
turned off the lights (rainforests are dark), and played a rainforest soundtrack to
help with the simulation. The kids carried flashlights while touring their parents
around the room. Afterwards, they were asked to sit down with their parents and
go through a “King of the Rainforest” Questionnaire (which was really a study
guide).
Lesson Plan includes: reading the background information on Edgar Allen Poe and a summary of “The Raven”, watching The Simpsons recreation of the classic poem, watching a video on figurative language, reading the poem and identifying figurative language found throughout, and creating a figurative language storyboard.
