Mental Wellness – Basics is a course that introduces adolescents to concepts related to mental health and wellness. Stigma associated with mental health can have serious and negative impacts on help-seeking behaviors, and many mental health conditions and symptoms can be significantly lessened through prevention. As such, this course will do the following:
Support students in identifying threats to mental health early, and taking measures to increase factors that protect mental health. Attempt to reduce stigma by introducing students to the experiences of others in order to develop awareness and empathy, as well as by providing facts on the prevalence and symptoms of mental health conditions. Foster a mental health mindset in students and help them develop feelings of self-efficacy by introducing knowledge and skills that promote and model advocacy for self and others.

"For most middle-schoolers, being on social media can mean connecting with friends, sharing pictures, and keeping up to date. But it can also mean big-time distractions, social pressures, and more. Help students navigate the different feelings they may already be experiencing on social media.
Students will be able to: *Identify the role of social media in students' lives. *Reflect on the positive and negative effects of using social media on their relationships. *Recognize "red flag feelings" when using social media, and consider ways to handle them."

Ocean Heroes Bootcamp empowers existing and emerging youth leaders to create their own campaigns to take action against ocean plastic pollution. Through a collaboration with a group of ocean health organizing partners, the Ocean Heroes Bootcamp provides youth with the skills, resources, and confidence to create campaigns to tackle single-use plastic pollution in their communities. Ocean Heroes HQ fosters a globally connected community of youth around one central goal: to create and implement campaigns that permanently reduce plastic pollution. Campaigns created by Ocean Heroes support the achievement of UN SDG 14.1, “By 2025, prevent and significantly reduce marine pollution of all kinds, in particular from land-based activities, including marine debris and nutrient pollution.” Campaigns also support the Clean Seas campaign of organizing partner UN Environment.
The Remote Network of Ocean Heroes is a free, open-source curriculum designed to enable ocean health organizations, education institutions, and passionate communities to implement the Ocean Heroes Bootcamp content seamlessly into their youth programs.
