Auxy Studio - Music & Beat Maker
Rating
0.0 stars

Auxy is a digital-music-creation app for iOS that focuses on beats and electronic music. It's gorgeously designed, offering a simple-to-hop-into experience that has tons of depth. To start creating your track, add a melodic instrument or drum sound from the app's built-in sound pack. Then, press and hold to edit your loop, duplicate it, or toggle a 12-tone chromatic scale or an 8-tone major, minor, or harmonic minor scale. The next screen shows a grid. Each column represents a note of the scale, and each row is a single beat. Tap the boxes in each row to indicate which notes you want to play on each beat. You can add as many instruments as you like to your one-, two-, or four-bar loop. Then, swipe to the right on-screen to create the next loop in your song with the same instruments. Tap the gear at the top of the screen to alter settings for your project (such as tempo and key).

From the menu at right, you can render your project and then export it directly to SoundCloud or save it as a video, audio, or uncompressed WAV file to your device. You can also export your project as a MIDI file or export the individual instruments. The top-left menu lets you browse built-in projects and your own creations, and you can also browse and download additional sound packs. You can also browse other users' creations on SoundCloud or view the Auxy Instagram feed.

BLACK HISTORY COLLECTION: CARLTON CHAMBERS - Official Olympic Team Website
Rating
0.0 stars

The Atlanta 1996 Olympic men’s 4x100m relay captured the eyes of the world. It was a showdown between the USA host team and the Canadian underdogs. Few people noticed that the team’s starting runner, Carlton Chambers, was not racing at his best. He had sustained a slight injury and hoped that it would be better for the final. After a discussion with the team, the truth was evident and he knew he had to step down for the good of the team. Fortunately, Robert Esmie was waiting in the wings and ready to fulfill his role as team reserve. The race was an epic moment in Canadian sport history. The gold medal likely would not have been won, except for Carlton’s teamwork.

This resource shows students that teamwork requires that you put the good of the team first. Sometimes that means making personal sacrifices like letting someone else take your spot or play a role you would have liked to play yourself.

Download the complete lesson, featuring the following outcomes:
- Identify characteristics of successful teams and team members;
- Understand how to practice effective teamwork;
- Learn how to take teamwork experiences in the classroom and apply them to everyday challenges.

Be an Upstander
Rating
0.0 stars

Sign up for a 45 minute virtual field trip, and follow it up with a classroom unit about human rights and being an upstander. The classroom unit includes an inquiry project.

Virtual Field Trip:
Students will learn how to be human rights upstanders by discovering the stories of people who used their personal strengths to take a stand to protect their rights and the rights of others, creating change.

Students will:
1. Learn to identify traits all upstanders possess and understand that each of us also possess these traits in our own unique way.
2. Experience exhibits and the inspiring Museum architecture as if they were at the Museum in person.
Interact with a Museum guide and ask questions to better understand how they can take action for positive change.
3. Engage in discussion, critical thinking and reflection on their role in the protection of their own rights and the rights of others.

Classroom Unit:
The Be an Upstander resource is a project-based learning unit designed to complement the “Be an
Upstander” school program. This resource targets students in middle years and encourages inquiry and
action on human rights issues. Students will examine the traits of human rights upstanders and follow
their example. By the end of the project, students will have had the opportunity to explore an issue they
are personally passionate about, share their knowledge and lead others toward action.

The Be an Upstander website is a digital student experience designed to support student learning as part
of a larger human rights themed, project-based learning unit. Students developing upstander projects
will engage in personal inquiry and action on human rights issues that matter to them. Students will learn
about the traits of human rights upstanders, be introduced to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights
and examine their personal strengths. Following the example of the upstanders they learn about,
students will be challenged to take tangible steps to becoming human rights upstanders themselves.
