Phonics charts and blends charts are a great way to teach difficult concepts to beginning readers. Keep them around the classroom (or accessible at home), and your students will be able to use them independently for increased confidence and learning!

This year my professional Development SMART Goal was to use cross-curricular instruction strategies in the classroom when pertaining to English Language Arts activities. Consequently, I have merged the Grade ¾ Social Studies Curricular outcomes with the ELA curricular outcomes. Discovering research techniques about their own formulated questions. Utilizing ABC Brainstorm 3. Making a Destination Road Map and Puzzle of Saskatchewan 4. Reading Saskatchewan based Literature and creating Pop-up books 5. Creating Mind-Maps of Saskatchewan topics of Study 6. Designing a Life-size Plastecine 3-D Collaborative Saskatchewan Map Game with their own question based upon the mind-map 7. Presenting their Game and own Social Studies examination.

A boy and his family endure a difficult nine-week journey across the ocean and survive the first winter at Plymouth. Based on true events, "Across the Wide Dark Sea" poetically narrates a young boy's account of risking the ocean to find religious freedom in a new land.

This selection is an informational narrative in the form of a play or Readers' Theater. The play is about a group of boys and girls who are summertime campers at the National Sea Base camp in the Florida Keys. Their adventure includes camping, snorkeling, and sailing aboard the ship. This is a new adventure for the characters in this story.

Students created an “all about me” book as a summative assessment from various lessons that I taught as part of a UBD. We had many books and videos learning about others, and themselves, they also brought various items for show and tell, etc. The focus was more on writing or drawing pictures as part of a book for the final assessment of the UBD. I thought it would be way better to do a small page and use Aurasma instead of creating a booklet.
