Figuring Out Fluency – Operations With Rational Numbers and Algebraic Equations
Rating
0.0 stars

This site offers 4 free math activities to assist students with increasing their fluency in operations with rational number and algebraic equations. The activities include:
Activity 7.7: "Would You Rather..." Routine
There are two versions of this routine with systems of linear equations—choosing different strategies (e.g., Use Tables or Use Graphs) and making choices within a strategy (e.g., For which variable will I substitute? Or Which variables will I eliminate?).
Activity 6.10: The Transformer Game
This game is a fun way to give students opportunities to choose and use different basic transformations to start solving equations.
Activity 5.7: Worked Examples For Ratios and Proportions
Use this activity for worked examples for ratios and proportions. Correctly worked examples and partially solved worked examples benefit students so that they can understand strategy.
ACTIVITY 4.11: Quotient Connect Game
This game is an engaging way to practice division using Partial Quotients. It is played similarly to the classic board game Boggle as students find quotients through connected digits.

Missing children and the existence of unmarked burial sites at Residential Schools across Canada have been well-known for decades among Indigenous communities. However, Canadians are still grappling with the truths about Residential Schools, spurring long-overdue conversations inside and outside the classroom.

Remembering the Children, the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation’s publication for students, offers a way to begin those conversations. It takes readers to a variety of Residential Schools across time and space, opening a door into a past that reverberates today, while also celebrating the resilience and resurgence of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples’ culture.

Remembering the Children Educators Guide

Rating
0.0 stars

The publication Remembering the Children and this complementary educator’s guide
were designed to help students achieve the following goals:
• gain a more complex understanding of the history and reality of residential schools in Canada, recognizing that children who attended Residential
Schools, day schools, industrial schools and boarding schools had their own
unique experiences and that these experiences varied across the country and
across time
• gain an appreciation for Indigenous knowledge and the diversity of traditional
cultures, languages and teachings of First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities
• understand the depth of loss that occurred as a result of the Residential
School system
• learn about contemporary people and organizations who are engaged in cultural revitalization efforts
• understand that they have an individual and collective role in reconciliation
Students and teachers all over Canada will be at different stages of learning. We hope
that the Remembering the Children publication and educator’s guide provide you
with content, resources, voices and ideas so that you can continue these important
conversations all year long.
With appreciation to all educators who are taking on this important work

nêhiyawêwin (Cree) language learning resources
Rating
0.0 stars

The University of Regina Press has made a number of excellent resources available online for open access. These resources, developed by Jean Okimâsis include a grammar guide, a workbook, and links to audio resources.
The resource include:
- a grammar guide, available as a PDF for download
- a link to the Language Lab user guide
- a Language Lab Workbook
- a Soundcloud link to Cree Language of the Plains audio sessions
- an Open Access link to a page that has all the above resources available in different formats.

Jean Okimâsis and Arok Wolvengrey also wrote a fantastic resource “How to Spell it in Cree“, which you can download as a PDF. It lays out the rules of a standardized written Cree, but also does important work of addressing the criticisms of standardization. It challenges the notion that we can ever use English to ‘phonetically’ represent the Cree language, champions a specific orthography for Cree, and describes how standardization, rather than destroying or degrading the language, will help ensure Cree continues to survive.
