iNaturalist is an identification key for plants, protist, fungi and animal species. It has online features as well as an app for Apple or Android, and is a joint initiative between California Academy of Sciences and the National Geographic Society.

Students will understand that many products come from plants and animals on farms.
Information on plants, flowers and trees. How plants flower and parts of a flower. What is a plant, parts of a plant and how plants make food. Trees, evergreens, deciduous trees, how trees grow, fruits nuts and berries and plants as food. How a plant is pollinated, how seeds are spread, meat-eating plants and plant defense. A tree through the seasons and leaves.
Students will explore hybridization, selective breeding and genetic Physical Science through a jigsaw approach. Then they will go through a series of articles that help them formulate their own opinions about genetic manipulation. Lastly, they will debate the merits of genetic manipulation as a class.
The Grade 1-3 PLC team has created a choice boards for students learning from home in response to COVID-19.

In this lesson, the students will investigate what types of plants and insects they could eat to survive in the Amazon. They will research various plants and/or insects and identify characteristics that make them edible or useful for the trip. The students will create posters and present their findings to the class.
In this activity, the students will use wax paper shaped as leaves and kite string to build a shelter to protect them from the rain. The students will then test the shelters for durability and water resistance.
